HVDC Expert with German (Offshore) Freelance

Location: Cádiz, Spain (100% on-site) – with initial training in Dortmund / Hamburg

Construction of offshore HVDC converter platforms

Join FERCHAU’s international team and take the lead to ensure professional on-site installation supervision, quality assurance, and coordination of technical interfaces for offshore HVDC converter platforms.

You will act as the key technical reference on-site, driving compliance, safety, and quality standards while supporting critical installation and commissioning activities.

What You’ll Do

Installation Supervision & Quality Assurance

• Oversee mechanical, electrical, and secondary systems installation (converter modules, transformers, GIS, AC / DC cables, protection & control).
• Verify contractor deliverables and manage documentation (ITP / ITR, FAT / SAT).
• Ensure compliance with HSE and quality requirements (IEC / EN / IEEE standards).
• Conduct inspections, witness points, and root cause analyses for deviations.
• Manage defect handling, NCRs, and punch list close‑out.

Project Coordination & Reporting

• Act as the interface between engineering teams (Hamburg / Dortmund) and the shipyard.
• Coordinate subcontractors and technical interfaces.
• Provide KPI‑based progress reports, daily shift updates, and schedule control (S‑curves, milestones).
• Support claim management and disruption documentation.
• Maintain site diary and photo documentation; lead toolbox talks and risk assessments.

Onboarding & Team Support

• Assist in onboarding new inspectors and subcontractors.
• Deliver technical training in HVDC technology and installation procedures.
• Capture lessons learned and knowledge‑sharing documents.

Your Profile

Education & Experience

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Extensive experience in offshore HVDC projects and high‑voltage installation supervision.
• Strong knowledge of IEC / EN / IEEE standards, HSE, and ISO 9001 processes.
• Proven expertise in large‑scale energy infrastructure projects.
• International experience and ability to work in multicultural environments.
• Quality management and control experience (FMEA, technology qualification).
• Fluent in German and English; Spanish strongly preferred.

Certifications & Added Value

• Experience in technical committees (CIGRE, IEC, VDE) appreciated.
• Managerial experience in site supervision and team leadership.
