Amazon is seeking a detail-oriented individual to join our Data Center Engineering Operations Team. This team maintains the critical physical infrastructure supporting Amazon Web Services, ensuring data center MEP systems operate at 100% availability while providing excellent customer service.

As the Data Center Chief Engineer (CE), you will ensure that electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment operate at peak efficiency. Your responsibilities include planned preventative maintenance, corrective work, and emergency response. You will serve as an expert technical resource reporting to the Data Center Facility Manager and collaborating with onsite Engineering Operations Technicians (EOT) and third-party vendors. Maintaining over 99.999% uptime for mission-critical equipment is essential.

You will manage small-to-medium projects from conception to completion, involving collaboration with engineering, automation, processing, and finance teams locally and globally. Your role includes creating milestones, managing costs, and documenting project outcomes to replicate successful strategies across facilities.

Additionally, you will lead, train, and support Engineering Operations Technicians in troubleshooting and operating electrical and mechanical equipment, including diesel generators, switchgear, UPS, PDU, AHU, chillers, cooling towers, chemical treatment systems, pumps, motors, VFDs, and building automation systems.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Oversee daily operations and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment.
  2. Operate independently with limited management oversight.
  3. Act as an escalation point for facilities issues, escalating as necessary.
  4. Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures.
  5. Troubleshoot and report facility and server-level events within SLAs.
  6. Develop and implement standard practices for operations and support teams.
  7. Provide training and guidance to Technicians.
  8. Ensure safety procedures are followed by all staff and vendors.
  9. Manage workflows using internal CMMS systems.
  10. Communicate complex technical information clearly to non-technical audiences.
