The Network Engineer will serve as a senior project support SME within the J6 Plans Division (J65), focused on solution design, documentation development, and integration planning for network-related mission initiatives. This position blends technical engineering knowledge with strong project support and documentation capabilities to ensure solutions are well-defined, approved, and delivered in alignment with mission and security requirements.

MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT

As a Network Engineer within J65, you will be instrumental in developing technical solutions to support enclave expansion, system integration, and partner connectivity. Your role will shape the documentation, diagrams, planning artifacts, and design materials that enable forward mission execution.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT
  • Serve as the J65 network design SME, developing system diagrams, integration documentation, and solution white papers for planned mission IT capabilities

  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Cybersecurity, and Engineering teams to define technical network requirements and identify integration risks

  • Translate mission objectives into technical network architectures and coordinate with engineering staff for feasibility assessments

  • Lead documentation efforts for new network implementations, including high-level design (HLD) and low-level design (LLD) packages, rack elevations, IP schemes, and enclave interconnectivity models

  • Support briefings and white papers to justify technical approaches, solution tradeoffs, and risk mitigation strategies

  • Contribute to configuration baselines, STIG compliance documentation, and RMF control mappings as part of planning and delivery

  • Coordinate with vendors or external stakeholders during design and requirements validation

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED
  • Education: Associate’s with 8 years, or Bachelor’s with 6 years in network design, engineering, or IT planning

  • Experience: 6+ years supporting DoD network infrastructure design or enterprise architecture planning

  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of network protocols, routing/switching architecture, VLAN design, IP schema, and firewall rule logic; Expertise developing engineering documentation in Word, PowerPoint, and Visio; Familiarity with Cisco platforms and tools including ISE, FMC, ASA, and core Layer 3 switching

  • Clearance: Active DoD Secret clearance required

  • Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship required

  • ROLE REQUIREMENTS: Excellent written communication and diagramming skills; Ability to draft planning documents, architectural justifications, and risk mitigation recommendations; Experience working in collaborative IPT environments; Familiarity with RMF processes and cyber input to network design

  • CERTIFICATIONS: Required: IAT Level II (e.g. Security+ CE), Cisco CCNA; Preferred: CCNP, ITIL v4, or PMP

  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience supporting joint mission or coalition enclave designs; Ability to translate strategic direction into actionable designs and implementation plans
