Job Description

• Enhance and advance a zero-incident safety culture and behavior. Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices.
• Manage project schedules to ensure all the projects are properly processed, including quotation, execution, reporting and invoicing.
• Independently determine project scope, develop a preliminary plan of investigation, and determine project specifications such as cost, time, and sample requirements by analyzing client input, available supplemental data, and product construction.
• Subcontractor inquiry, materials/equipment/personnel planning to meet job and project requirements.
• Perform sample testing and measurements at UL’s laboratories.
• Projects may include frequent travel to conduct or witness tests at client sites. Initiate communication with clients to promote and explain the benefits of new and existing services.
• Communicate with clients and laboratories to discuss technical issues, explain UL procedures and requirements, convey project cost, and negotiate completion date and sample requirements.
• Communicate project status and results to clients through frequent contact and by preparing reports.
• Perform data analysis on the obtained testing data. Prepare technical reports and present their results to customers.
• Maintain daily work records with accuracy and integrity. Serve as Project Handler of record and sign as Reviewer of record as assigned.
• Develop UL requirements for testing products beyond the scope of existing standards, or those involving unique features requiring frequent use of independent judgment. Develop special test methods and test equipment.
• Coordinate and/or perform File Reviews.
• May represent UL on technical committees and/or industry-related functions such as seminars and trade shows.
• Train and guide the other engineers to build competency in MV/HV cable qualification, quality assurance, and other lab testing programs.
• Perform other duties as directed.
• Willing to travel over 25% to customer’s facilities and job site, including global travels.

Qualifications

• University Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or Physics from an accredited program.
• 5+ years of experience working with or for MV/HV or high‑power laboratories, MV/HV cable manufacturers, power utilities involving MV/HV cable systems, or relevant fields.
• Strong knowledge and experience in related industrial and international standards for MV/HV cable systems, including but not limited to ICEA/AEIC, IEEE, IEC, and CIGRE standards.
• Knowledge in high voltage testing technologies on power cables including high voltage withstand test, impulse test, load cycle test, dielectric loss test, partial discharge measurement, etc.
• Familiarity with high voltage safety requirements in laboratories and manufacturer plants. Commitment to safe operations and zero incident workplace.
• Demonstrated ability to apply project-handling concepts in use in areas of expertise, including application to complex, new, or unusual products.
• Able to communicate effectively orally and in writing with all internal and external customers and make formal presentations to people at all levels, both within and outside the company.
• Knowledge of basic computer software in the MS Office suite.
• Able to handle multiple assignments concurrently without direct supervision.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable DMV record with a willingness to accept extended travel assignments.
