Overview

Medical / Senior Medical Science Liaison

Locations: Germany & Austria. Primary centres in Essen, Augsburg, Munich Region. Ideal localities: North Rhine-Westphalia / Bavaria. Remote-based with wide geographic travel. First 6+ months: about 75% travel expected.

Employment Type: Contractual – Self Employed (6-9 months). Potential move to employed position. Daily rate payable – competitive, with relative expenses.

Experience background: 5+ years in Medical Affairs, with rare/orphan diseases experience preferred. Therapeutic alignments: Endocrinology / Endocrine / Obesity / Metabolic Disease / Genetic Disorders / Psychiatry.

Required: PhD / PharmD / Pharmacy Degree.

Our client is an innovative Biopharma advancing Europe development plans, with primary focus on Germany and Austria.

Following recent commercial success and FDA approval for a Rare Disease and genetic disorder treatment, aimed at addressing unmet need in Endocrine conditions including obesity and related behavioral issues in adults and children, the company seeks an innovative, highly autonomous Medical Science Liaison or Senior Medical Liaison to support launch preparations in Germany and Austria.

This is a highly autonomous, self-led Medical Affairs role. It is fully remote with extensive regional travel in Germany and Austria as required. In the initial 6+ months during build to launch, weekly travel is expected to be at least 75% to enable close engagements with existing and new connections.

Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain robust KOL plans and develop long-term relationships with KOLs, Principal Investigators, endocrinologists, neurologists and pediatricians across key research and treatment centres, residential care facilities, and associated networks in Germany and Austria.
  • Attend future congresses (national and international) and participate in patient advocacy events, publications planning, symposia and medical education activities.
  • Identify, map, and engage regional stakeholders; collaborate with EU HQ, Head of Medical Affairs, field teams, and US business partners as required.
  • Demonstrate strong self-leadership and collaboration within a multi-country, cross-functional environment.
  • Remain aware of country-specific regulatory requirements and early access programs relevant to the assigned regions.
Qualifications & Experience
  • German national or EU citizen with permanent residence in Germany.
  • Proven experience as a field-based Medical Liaison or Senior Medical Liaison in Germany; 5+ years preferred.
  • Remote working experience covering a broad region in Germany (and/or beyond).
  • Language: German (full proficiency) and English (advanced).
  • Therapeutic experience in Endocrinology / Endocrine / Obesity / Metabolic Disease / Genetic Disorders; rare/orphan disease portfolio involvement in early-stage settings and launches.
  • Experience in innovative biotech/biopharma, smaller start-up environments, or related build-to-launch activities is highly beneficial.
  • Ability to travel extensively (weekly travel a key requirement).
  • Creative and innovative approach to Medical Affairs with a collaborative style across EU teams.
