A leading manufacturing company in Freiburg is seeking a Senior Manager Finance to lead the site's finance agenda. This role includes managing a team, driving performance, and ensuring compliance with German GAAP and internal controls. The ideal candidate will have over ten years of experience in finance/accounting, strong leadership skills, and the ability to manage large data sets. Are you a strategic finance leader with a passion for manufacturing and a talent for building strong partnerships across complex organizations? As Senior Manager Finance in Freiburg, you will lead the site’s finance agenda end-to-end and representing Finance for the entire site. You’ll manage a team of five to seven, elevate systems and processes, and drive performance, compliance, and continuous improvement across the site, impacting multiple franchises it serves.
Serve as a strategic business partner on financial and economic matters at local and cross-site management levels, acting as the primary Finance contact for the Freiburg site and the Site Managing Director.
Lead the local Finance team (5 employees) with full functional and disciplinary responsibility, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and fostering engagement and accountability.
Partner with Operations to analyze performance, KPIs, and profitability in manufacturing and production environments.
Own budgeting, forecasting, and all aspects of monthly and annual closing, including journal entries, reconciliations, and preparation of financial reports.
Prepare, interpret, and communicate financial analyses, reports, and business cases to support sound decision-making.
Provides insights and solutions to complex business opportunities that drives bottom line value for the Site and Franchise.
Sets a strong compliance tone at the site, ensuring compliance with local statutory requirements, internal policies, cost accounting standards, and internal controls; manage statutory topics and interactions with internal and external auditors.
Differentiate and apply German GAAP (HGB) and US GAAP, coordinating with key stakeholders as needed.
Collaborate closely with the Accounting Shared Service Center in Poland and drive best practices across sites.
Contribute to Integrated Business Planning (S&OP) and various cross-functional initiatives.
Confidently manage large data sets and communicate insights clearly within a matrix organization.
Identify and lead process improvement opportunities to enhance quality, documentation, controls, and workflow automation.
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a comparable field.
Minimum 10 years of relevant professional experience in finance/accounting, preferably in manufacturing/production and regulated environments.
Solid accounting background with proven experience in German GAAP (HGB) and US GAAP, including statutory reporting and accounting memos/letters.
Experience in matrix organizations; ideally in R&D and manufacturing companies.
Proven leadership experience managing on-site and/or remote teams; strong motivational and coaching style.
Experience with S&OP/Integrated Business Planning and cost accounting/KPI frameworks in manufacturing.
Proactively drive initiatives end-to-end.
Strong analytical and strategic capabilities; experienced in managing large data sets and translating insights into action.
Ability to influence in a matrix setup and build effective relationships across functions and sites.
Strong system experience with SAP.
Fluent German and English (spoken and written).
Demonstrated success in process optimization or continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., automation, standardization, documentation).
Nice to have system experience in HFM (Hyperion Financial Management) and BlackLine.
