Role Summary

The Software Field Application Engineer (FAE) serves as the primary technical bridge between RV Tech and our automotive partners. In this role, you will act as a first-line filter to distinguish between high-impact technical defects and general feature requests. You will provide essential on-site triage and diagnostic support to ensure our development teams receive high-fidelity, actionable data from the field. This position is critical for maintaining technical alignment and fostering strong collaborative relationships within our joint venture.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the first technical point of contact for key automotive partners to manage on-site requirements and troubleshooting efforts.
• Perform rapid triage of field-reported symptoms to distinguish between software defects, environmental issues, and feature requests.
• Conduct hands-on vehicle diagnostics at partner sites, including the capture of network traces (CAN, LIN, Ethernet) and real-time data logs.
• Document technical findings into high-fidelity hand-off reports for internal development teams, ensuring all necessary logs and context are included.
• Utilize measurement equipment and diagnostic tools to gather "ground truth" data directly from vehicle ECUs and zonal controllers.
• Coordinate with distributed team members and internal departments to track and report on the status of open technical tickets.
• Represent RV Tech at partner facilities in Wolfsburg and Ingolstadt to provide direct integration support and engineering strategy alignment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience as a Field Application Engineer or Technical Lead supporting complex embedded systems or vehicle software platforms.
• Proficiency in analyzing automotive network protocols such as CAN, LIN, and Ethernet.
• Proven ability to investigate technical issues in one or more domains: Communication, Vehicle Access, Infotainment, ADAS, Middleware.
• Competency in using diagnostic tools to interpret and communicate complex software build and application-level problems.
• Proficient with Jira and modern ticketing systems to manage and track technical issues and progress.
• Fluency in English is required.

Mobility & Work Ethic

• This role is based at our Berlin HQ. It requires willingness and ability to travel domestically approximately 40-50% of the time, often on short notice, to partner sites and/or test facilities for hands-on diagnostics.
• Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of working autonomously in the field while adhering to established documentation and escalation protocols.
