Description

Upway is a fast growing startup building the largest marketplace for refurbished e-bikes globally. We have refurbished over 100,000 e-bikes in just four years and are growing fast! We are looking for a Bike Mechanic for our Upway Illingen Refurbishment Centre, currently our largest Centre in the world. The mechanic team repairs a large number of different used e-bikes and refurbishes them to excellent condition, providing Upway’s customers with a vast and high-quality e-bike selection.

As a Mechanic, you will carry out the entire repair process of an e-bike and ensure that the bikes are delivered in excellent quality. You will work with your teammates in our Refurbishment Centre in Illingen, dealing with e-bikes only and using the highest quality materials and most modern tech there is. Due to the large selection of different e-bikes (speed bikes, mountain bikes, city bikes, cargo bikes; heavily used to almost new), the job remains varied and highly challenging.

Key Responsibilities

• Full Repair Cycle: You manage the entire process, from initial assessment and inspection to precise fault detection, professional spare parts selection, and the execution of the actual repair.
• Technical Authority: You determine the necessary scope of the repair, making decisions based on technical expertise, not customer requests.
• Quality Assurance: You conduct meticulous quality controls to ensure our customers receive perfectly refurbished e-bikes at all times.
• Expert Input: You contribute your specialized knowledge in hardware and software.
• Continuous Improvement: You actively participate in the ongoing enhancement of our repair processes and the overall quality of our e-bikes.
• Team Collaboration: You are an important team player, contributing your ideas for optimizing the workshop operations and workflows.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

• Professional Background: You have experience as a bicycle mechanic, two-wheel mechanic, two-wheel mechatronics technician, automotive mechanic (Kfz-Mechaniker:in), or possess mechanical/craftsmanship experience from a similar field. Ideally, you have completed one of the relevant vocational training programs (apprenticeships). However, we also welcome career changers (Quereinsteiger) who bring a solid understanding of (E-)bike repairs!
• Skills & Attitude: You are highly organized and enjoy thorough, independent work.
• Growth Mindset: You enjoy experimenting with new repair processes and continuously improving them.
• Language Skills: You have good proficiency in German and/or English.
