Research Associate (all genders) - High Content Imaging

Join Bayer’s Chemical Biology, Imaging and Omics (CBIO) team in Wuppertal and contribute to cutting‑edge early drug discovery within an interdisciplinary R&D environment. You will work with state‑of‑the‑art high‑content imaging, complex in vitro systems, and advanced automation technologies to drive assay development, hit characterization, and target identification. Become part of a collaborative, highly engaged scientific community tackling key questions that shape Bayer’s future pipeline.

Your Tasks And Responsibilities
  • You will develop advanced microscopy assays (e.g., immunofluorescence, genetically engineered cell systems, Cell Painting) to identify and characterize novel lead structures as well as cellular phenotypes for target discovery.
  • In this role, you will perform routine compound characterization across hit clusters to support early discovery campaigns.
  • Working closely with the interdisciplinary CBIO team, you will contribute to multiple projects across therapeutic areas with a strong focus on microscopy‑driven research.
  • Designing, executing, and analyzing image‑based experiments will be part of your role, and you will present results clearly within project teams.
  • You will also ensure reliable operation of laboratory equipment and evaluate new technological capabilities and software to expand CBIO’s imaging portfolio.
WHO YOU ARE
  • You hold a Bachelor’s degree in biology or a related field and bring a strong understanding of cancer biology and/or cardiovascular biology.
  • Ideally, you have first experience within the industry in the field of drug discovery; familiarity with data analysis workflows for imaging data is considered a plus.
  • As a laboratory expert, you demonstrate hands‑on expertise in mammalian cell culture and curiosity for complex biological systems such as hiPSC models and advanced 3D tissue cultures.
  • You are eager to broaden your knowledge in drug discovery, particularly in cellular assay systems leveraging microscopy and automation workflows.
  • With strong technical proficiency in high‑content microscopy, cell painting, RNA imaging approaches, and automated liquid handling systems, you perform confidently in an R&D environment.
  • You are motivated to expand your skill set toward multi‑omics technologies including transcriptomics and proteomics.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken, round off you profile; German language skills are a plus.
