A recreational service provider in Spangdahlem is seeking a qualified Recreation Specialist to oversee all activities at the Events Center. This role involves managing large-scale events, developing outdoor recreation programs, and ensuring they align with community needs and environmental practices. Candidates must possess relevant educational credentials or experience and demonstrate strong communication and organizational skills. This position offers a chance to engage with the community and enhance recreational offerings.
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Recreation Specialist for the Spangdahlem Events Center, responsible for all facets of full-service events center activities and for performing/executing all tasks associated with the successful fulfillment of program requirements/objectives.
In order to qualify, you must meet the SPECIALIZED experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions, Recreation Specialist Series 0188.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-05, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience include knowledge gained through relevant experience to competently and independently carry out continuing Outdoor Recreation projects or programs through the proper application of the principles, concepts, and techniques of recreation to the specific needs of the community to be served and in light of the natural environment involved; knowledge of the activities and services involved in a typical Outdoor Recreation program and of the practices and procedures of sound natural resources management and utilization, and to develop and conduct a recreation program that not only supports and meets the basic program requirements, but that provides a range of enhanced program activities which properly utilizes and are in harmony with the environment.
OR EDUCATION: Successfully completed one full academic year of graduate-level education with a major study in a subject area related to the position (general recreation, or one of the appropriate fields of recreation such as outdoor recreation; recreation and parks leadership; wild land recreation management; natural resources recreation; youth recreation; public, urban, or community recreation; special populations recreation e.g., senior citizens, institutional, etc.; or physical education.) OR possess a bachelor’s degree and claim Superior Academic Achievement in a related subject area. NOTE: You must submit copies of your transcripts with your application.
OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of specialized experience and education as described above. Therefore, you may have a combination of experience and education to meet the qualifications of the position. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts with your application.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-05 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and/or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
