Postdoctoral Researcher in Translational Control & Cancer-Microbiome Interactions

Reference number: 2025-0311

Heidelberg, Mannheim–Full-time–Translational Gastrointestinal Oncology and Preclinical Models

The Junior Clinical Cooperation Unit (headed by Prof. Dr. med. Johannes Betge) aims to identify cancer vulnerabilities and uncover mechanisms of treatment resistance by using patient-derived cancer models and high-throughput methods, such as drug screening, -omics, and single-cell technologies. Together with the group of Dr. Johanna Schott (Department of Biochemistry, Mannheim Medical Faculty), focused on RNA biology and mechanisms of translation control, we offer a postdoctoral position within the framework of the newly funded Research Unit “Functional Genomics and Microbiomics in Precision Medicine of Colorectal Cancer” (GenoMiCC, FOR 5806).

YOUR TASKS
  • Gain important insights into clinically relevant aspects of colorectal cancer biology and influences of microbiota
  • Apply a wide spectrum of genetic, molecular, cell biological, biochemical as well as -omics and bioinformatics techniques
  • Optimize and apply ribosome profiling and single-cell ribosome profiling on organoids and clinical samples
  • Characterize the impact of gutmicrobiota-derived metabolites on signalling pathways, translation control, and therapy resistance in patient-derived colorectal cancer organoids and clinical samples
  • Interact within a diverse and multidisciplinary environment of biologists, clinicians, computational scientists, and other colleagues within our research groups and with consortium partners of the FOR 5806
YOUR PROFILE

We are looking for a self-motivated, bright individual with a master’s and PhD degree in biochemistry, biology, bioinformatics, molecular medicine, or a related subject. Previous experience with biochemical and molecular biology techniques, as well as a strong interest in molecular cancer research, are essential. Prior experience with RNA biology, organoid models, high-throughput methods, or -omics analysis is an advantage, but not mandatory. Due to the interdisciplinary framework and close collaboration between two labs and within the FOR 5806, excellent communication skills in English, the ability to work independently, and strong organizational skills are expected.

The position is initially limited to 2 years, with the possibility of prolongation.

Application Deadline:17.01.2026

Applications by e-mail cannot be accepted.
Please also note that we cannot return applications submitted by post.
