Jobbeschreibung
Postdoc (f/m/d) Stability Modelling of Perovskite-Silicon Tandem Solar Cells
Reference No.: SE 2025/24
At Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin, we research materials and processes for next-generation solar cells that are highly efficient, durable and cost-effective. Monolithic perovskite–silicon tandem solar cells are among the most promising technologies. In the laboratory, we have already achieved a world record efficiency of over 30% with such devices, and – partly in collaboration with industry partners – we are developing scalable processes for industrially relevant cells and modules.

In the TruStable project, a collaboration between Hanwha Q CELLS GmbH, Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin, Forschungszentrum Jülich and the Fraunhofer Centre for Silicon Photovoltaics, we aim to utilise and expand outdoor datasets on perovskite-based solar cells to develop data-driven models that improve solar cell reliability and enable long-term performance predictions. Data from past and ongoing field tests, indoor ageing tests and post-mortem analyses will be used to identify failure modes. Based on this, alternative manufacturing methods and early detection algorithms will be developed.
Your Tasks
  • Based on the data recorded in the team, you will develop and test machine learning algorithms for perovskite tandem solar cells' energy yield and degradation
  • Data cleaning and preparation
  • Assisting integration of the experimental data into the data management system
  • Participation in the results dissemination, including writing scientific papers and reporting research results in conferences and seminars
  • Participating in project activities and writing reports
Your Profile
  • MSc or PhD in a relevant field
  • Experience with Machine Learning modeling
  • Coding experience, preferably Python
  • Basic knowledge of databases tools and concepts
  • Basic knowledge in Photovoltaics is a plus
  • Experience working with time series data is a plus
  • Good oral and written English are essential, German language is a plus
Your Benefits
  • Opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative materials and technological solutions for a climate-neutral future in cooperation with leading international researchers
  • Commitment to diversity and sustainability through an inclusive working environment, promotion of diversity sensitivity and implementation of sustainable and climate-neutral methods
  • Career-enhancing networking opportunities and individual mentoring and support from the HZB Graduate Centre and HZB Postdoc Office
  • Attractive remuneration through payment according to Public Service Wage Agreement (TVöD Bund)
  • 30 days holiday/year
  • Extensive additional benefits, such as company pension plan (VBL), subsidy for public transport (Deutschlandticket Job) and company sports programmes
  • Good work-life balance through counselling services on family and career and flexible working time models: Flexitime, part-time, hybrid working
  • And a team that is looking forward to meeting you!

Fixed term contract for 24 months. The salary is based on the Collective Agreement for the German Public Service (TVöD-Bund).
