Overview

PLC Software Automation Engineer - Wind Farm Control (m/f/d)

Location: Hamburg, DE, 22419

Nordex offers a role focused on developing and programming wind farm control software with minimal travel. The position emphasizes technical implementation, architecture, and optimization of control systems from the Hamburg office, with occasional testing or alignment travel 1–2 times per year.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement software solutions for the Nordex Acciona wind farm controller.
• Translate functional control requirements into robust code (primarily PLC-based and/or C#/C++).
• Develop and optimize communication interfaces (Profinet, Modbus TCP/RTU, IEC60870-5-101/104).
• Validate control software through lab tests and remote field tests.
• Contribute to performance optimization of wind farm control systems.
• Collaborate with Control and Grid Code teams as well as testing and validation teams.
• Take ownership of complex control development projects and lead their implementation.
• Provide 3rd-level support for the Nordex Acciona wind farm fleet.

Qualifications

• University degree in Control Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications or related fields.
• Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in a similar role.
• Solid programming experience in C#, C++ and/or IEC 61131-3 based PLC programming.
• Experience in embedded systems and real-time applications is a plus.
• Strong understanding of PLC architectures and control algorithms.
• Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (OPC UA, DNP3, Bluecom).
• Experience with grid codes and renewable energy systems (wind, BESS, PV, hybrid plants).
• Ideally experience with IEC61400-25 namespace and model-based design (e.g. MATLAB/Simulink).
• Structured, reliable, and independent working style, combined with strong team and communication skills.
• Fluent in English (spoken and written); knowledge of German or Spanish is a plus.
