A leading research organization in Germany is offering a PhD program focused on the development of photonic measurement techniques. Role includes participating in renowned projects and supports with laser setup and innovative gas analysis technology. Candidates should hold a master's degree in experimental physics or similar. This position fosters international collaboration and provides further education opportunities.
Our »Optical Quantum Metrology« research group develops innovative measurement technology for clinical and industrial applications based on the ability to measure the oscillations of electric fields in the infrared and terahertz spectral range in a stroboscopic manner. As part of the LightwaveLab, the research group offers the fascinating opportunity to fundamentally examine light at the quantum limit on the one hand, and to apply it as a spectroscopic tool for human medicine, biology and industrial material characterisation on the other. The advertised PhD program aims to develop novel photonic measurement techniques based on interferometry and nonlinear optics that enable spectroscopic measurement of the entire physiologically-relevant concentration range of molecules in biological fluids and gases. Achieving these ambitious goals requires substantial further development of key femtosecond technologies, which will be realised through cooperation with the Max Planck Institute for Quantum Optics as part of a renowned Max-Planck-Fraunhofer project.
The doctorate is awarded as part of an ITWM scholarship.
This position is also available on a part-time basis. We value and promote the diversity of our employees\' skills and therefore welcome all applications - regardless of age, gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion, ideology, disability, sexual orientation and identity. Severely disabled persons are given preference in the event of equal suitability.
