The University of Luxembourg is an international research-intensive university with a distinctly multilingual and interdisciplinary character.

The University's main Library, the Luxembourg Learning Centre (LLC), located in the heart of the Belval campus, is much more than a library: it is a hub of innovation and knowledge designed to foster research, learning, collaboration and outreach. Its building, a true architectural masterpiece, combines the restructuring of an old industrial hall with bold contemporary design, and spans 14,000 m², 10.7 km of shelving and more a thousand working spaces. It stands as a prestigious façade for Luxembourg and for the University of Luxembourg, reflecting the ambition and academic excellence of both the country and the institution. Equipped with modern infrastructure and advanced technologies, the LLC offers a unique environment where students, researchers, and professionals come together to create, share and innovate. Complementing the central role of the LLC in Belval, a library hub specialising in European law research is located in the Weicker building, benefiting from its proximity to European institutions and Luxembourg's financial district.

Integrated within the Vice-Rectorate for Research of the University of Luxembourg, the Library plays a strategic role in academic and scientific development. The scope of the LLC is currently expanding, with an increased focus on digital services, information systems, research data management and integrating the Weicker specialised library, offering a unique opportunity for strategic leadership and for shaping the University's service portfolio.

You will join a team of more than 35 library and information professionals based on two campuses (Belval and Kirchberg), committed to delivering high-quality services, collections, research support, and innovating to meet user needs.

Your role

As Head of Library, you will drive the transformation of library services. Your mission: define an ambitious strategy and lead its execution, making the LLC a key player in Luxembourg's academic and research ecosystem:

  • Define and implement a long-term vision for library services aligned with institutional goals and academic trends, including open science and research data services
  • Lead innovation: technology integration, resource digitization, and development of user-centered services
  • Analyze and optimize existing processes: evaluate current operations to improve offerings and ensure service alignment with user needs
  • Understand the needs of faculty, researchers, and students to design tailored solutions and enhance impact
  • Ensure operational excellence: oversee public services, infrastructure, repositories, and preservation projects, while supporting efforts to disseminate research, theses, and academic work
  • Optimize resources: strategic budget management and efficient allocation of funds
  • Inspire and unite teams: supervise, mentor, and develop talent in a collaborative and inclusive environment
  • Strengthen LLC's visibility and influence: represent the library in internal committees and external networks, and build strategic partnerships
  • Promote information literacy: integrate programs into academic curricula
  • Ensure seamless integration of university libraries for optimal synergy of services and collections across campuses
Your profile
  • A Master's degree or equivalent professional experience in an academic, research, digital, or information-intensive environment
  • English is required, alongside a proficiency in French or German
  • A PhD is considered an asset
  • 10+ years experience in strategic and operational library management
  • Knowledge of public sector regulations and compliance standards
  • In depth expertise in digital library services and research information flows
  • Proven experience in strategic management within academic or research libraries
  • Inspirational leadership and ability to drive change in highly diverse teams
  • Expertise in classification systems, emerging technologies, and academic library trends
  • Advanced skills in managing complex projects, digitization, and innovation
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to engage diverse stakeholders and promote services
