Jobbeschreibung

We are offering a full-time postdoctoral position with initial employment of 3 years and the possibility of an extension up to 6 years provided positive assessment.

The work at Center for Resource Management and Solid Waste Engineering (RMAT) focuses on the development of resource-efficient and environmentally sound solutions for the circular economy. At the center, both experimental methods of waste characterization and processing as well as system analysis tools for the optimization of material and energy flows, such as material flow analysis (MFA) or life cycle assessment (LCA), are applied and further developed. As a researcher at RMAT, you will be part of a nationally and internationally well connected and productive research team whose profile in research and teaching will be complemented and further strengthened through your collaboration.

Tasks
  • Contribute to research and teaching at the Center for Resource Management and Solid Waste Engineering.
  • Get involved in ongoing research activities at the center in the field of investigation and assessment of waste management processes and systems, such as circular economy concepts for plastics from different sectors, optimization of recycling of residues from thermal waste treatment, development of innovative biowaste valorization pathways, recycling of waste from the construction and infrastructure sector, or development of methods to assess the material efficiency and environmental impact of waste-resource systems.
  • Develop an independent line of research consistent with the center’s research priorities and acquire third‑party funding to establish a research team.
  • Publication of research results in high‑ranked international peer‑reviewed journals.
  • Developing and conducting courses in the environmental engineering program at the University of Kassel.
  • Co‑supervision of PhD students as well as supervision of bachelor and master students.
Requirements
  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in environmental engineering, environmental technology, environmental science, industrial ecology or a related field and Doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in resource management and/or solid waste engineering. The degrees must be acquired no later than the date of hire.
  • Publications in relevant international peer‑reviewed journals in the field of circular economy, resource management and waste management.
  • Very good skills in English.
  • A high degree of organizational and team skills.
  • Good written and spoken German.
