Overview

WHITE MOUNTAINS COMMUNITY COLLEGE
FACILITIES MAINTENANCE MECHANIC
PART-TIME (MON-FRI, 1:00 PM-6:00 PM), $20.65-$22.14/HOUR

Responsibilities
  • Performs minor renovations, remodeling, painting, wallpapering and light carpentry work; services door hardware and leaking plumbing systems throughout the college; performs preventive maintenance on all door, lock, and plumbing systems preventing premature failures.
  • Inspects and cleans boilers, monitors heating system gauges, performs preventive maintenance on circulation pumps and compressors; maintains proper operation of internal exit and emergency lighting; changes filters and lubricates bearings on HVAC equipment; changes/repairs existing electrical ballasts, outlets, and switches throughout the campus.
  • Inspects failed structure, equipment, or building components; determines parts and tool requirements, completes required minor repairs; reports major failures to supervisor for immediate repair; establishes and maintains a basic supply of maintenance materials and hardware as well as maintains condition of hand/power tools and equipment.
  • Monitors and reports building and grounds safety issues and concerns to supervisor and/or college safety and security supervisor.
  • Performs minor landscaping duties including mowing, trimming, and planting; assists with snow plowing, shoveling, and salting/sanding of parking lots, driveways, walkways, and entryways; monitors condition of plow and mowing equipment and assists in repair as necessary.
  • Assists in rearranging offices, classrooms, and laboratories as requested; assists Facilities Manager in supervising and assigning work to work study students; supervises department in absence of Facilities Manager.
  • Assists Facilities Manager with construction projects as requested at all WMCC locations.
  • Cleans and sanitizes floors, rooms, and halls, strips, and buffs floors; removes and disposes of trash; drives trucks and other college vehicles to make deliveries and pick-up supplies.
  • Participates in professional development activities related to safety and risk management as assigned.
  • Complies with all college, system, state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent credential.

Experience: One year of experience in general building maintenance and/or repair work. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required education.

License/Certification: Valid driver's license.

Desired Qualifications: Some training in a building trade. Experience with general maintenance and repair of small equipment, machinery and tools.

Physical Demands: Requires medium work, including continuous strenuous activities such as frequent reaching, bending, or lifting as well as performing work activities which require fine manual dexterity or coordination in operating machines or equipment.

Special Requirements: Requires occasional change to normal work hours due to a special or emergency event to support college operations/activities. In the event of an emergency, this position may be designated as essential personnel and therefore subject to all related provisions as outlined in the Staff Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Recommended Work Traits: Knowledge of one or more of the building trades. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Knowledge of the methods and tools used in maintenance and repair work. Skilled in the use of tools and equipment used in the work. Ability to direct the work of subordinate maintenance staff. Ability to understand and carry out instructions. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college appointing authority.
