Backend Engineer II, Claims Reconciliation

Alma is seeking a mission-driven Backend Engineer with experience working across the stack to join our team. The Claims Reconciliation team is responsible for the actions after a claim is submitted and a response is received from insurance. In this role, you will be building features that solve real problems for mental health providers. The ideal candidate is able to recognize that successful software development requires communication, experimentation, and iteration.

On this scaling team, you will have a strong hand in defining Alma's features, services, and architecture. The ideal person for this role loves to collaborate with other teams to design and build amazing digital experiences.

What You’ll Do:
  • 60% Backend work supporting complex initiatives to design, develop, and implement maintainable and scalable product features using modern web technologies (Python, Django, MySQL).
  • 10% Frontend work (React).
  • 20% Own and plan projects with stakeholders, operations leads, product managers, and designers and guide execution and delivery.
  • 10% Own team quality practices and drive improvements.
Who You Are:
  • 3-5 years of experience as an engineer with a proven history of working across the stack and building products at scale.
  • Extensive experience with web technologies. We are language-agnostic in our interviews but require experience with one or more common web frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of accessibility and security compliance.
  • Experience implementing automated testing platforms and unit tests.
  • Understanding of observability and monitoring best practices.
  • Proficient with code versioning tools, such as Git.
  • Enjoy customer-centered software development and collaborating closely with a team of engineers, designers, and product managers.
  • Desire to experiment, learn from both successes and failures, and use data to make data-driven decisions.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers.
  • Experience leading medium-sized projects, including problem architecture, solutioning, breaking work into actionable tasks, and tracking progress to delivery.
  • Ability to effectively communicate expectations with stakeholders.

Salary Band: $124,600-$177,800
