The Assistant Track Supervisor leads operations within an assigned territory, focusing on track inspection and repairs. This role involves replacing rails, ties, switches, and ballasts, and provides daily support to the Track Supervisor.

1. Lead engineering operations according to CN’s operating plan.
2. Supervise track gangs, track employees, and hi-rail operations.
3. Ensure compliance with safe work procedures, Transport Canada guidelines, and CN standards, policies, and regulations.
4. Provide clear direction, coaching, and performance monitoring for team members.
5. Handle investigations, corrective actions, and grievances per collective agreements and policies.
6. Manage budgets and workforce productivity within CN policies and the Five Guiding Principles.
7. Communicate track conditions and daily production updates to senior management for operational adjustments.
8. Ensure track safety through regulatory inspections and input findings into the Track Inspection System (TIS).
9. Follow up on reported track issues to ensure compliance with standards.
10. Participate in investigations of derailments and service disruptions, collaborating with Transportation and Mechanical teams.
11. Conduct safety audits and engagements with the unionized workforce.
12. Plan, schedule, and perform track repairs and maintenance.
13. Respond to emergencies as needed.

This role involves working both in an office environment and outdoors under various weather conditions, including irregular hours, nights, weekends, and holidays. Travel up to 50% across the territory may be required with little notice. The position demands meeting tight deadlines, handling stress, and responding to emergencies. The ability to lift up to 70 lbs is necessary.

• 3-5 years in safety compliance.
• Experience in troubleshooting and problem-solving.
• Relevant experience in similar conditions or safety/regulatory environments.
• Budget management experience.
• Labor relations experience, including collective agreements, grievances, negotiations, and discipline.
• Supervision of unionized workforce.

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Bachelor’s Degree (asset).
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Certified in Railroad Operating Signals (asset).
