Before School Support – LTO – 7.5 hrs per week, Riverside

Overview

The Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) serves approximately 65,000 students in 123 schools. We are looking for a Before and After School Support (B.A.S.S.) employee to work with a Designated Early Childhood Educator (DECE) to support play‑based programming for students in junior kindergarten to grade 6 who are registered in the WRDSB Before and After School program. The successful candidate will provide general student supervision and support a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities
  • Follow the guidance of the DECE operating the extended‑day classroom.
  • Support positive and responsive interactions among children, parents, child‑care providers, and staff.
  • Encourage children to interact and communicate positively and support their ability to self‑regulate.
  • Support the children’s exploration, play, and inquiry; both child‑initiated and adult‑supported experiences.
  • Support positive learning environments inclusive of all children, including those with individualized plans.
  • Support indoor and outdoor play, active play, rest, and quiet time throughout the day, considering each child’s needs.
  • Foster engagement and ongoing communication with parents about the program and their children.
  • Follow licensing requirements under the Child Care and Early Years Act.
  • Promote an anti‑oppressive, anti‑racist, and inclusive culture where all children feel seen, heard, respected, and supported.
  • Support the health, safety, nutrition, and well‑being of the children.
  • Supervise and support children to ensure they are healthy and safe by following Public Health, First Aid, and Emergency procedures.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Hold a minimum of a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Prior experience supervising and supporting children in a positive and safe manner.
  • Valid Standard First Aid with CPR Level C/AED (or willingness to obtain this training as a condition of employment).
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) within 5 years if currently employed with the WRDSB, or within 6 months for new employees.
  • Completed Licensed Child Care Staff record requirements, including Region of Waterloo Public Health Health Assessment and applications.
  • Proof of Standard First Aid with CPR Level C/AED must be included in the portfolio.
  • Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Background Check (Vulnerable Sector) before commencement of employment; legal costs are not reimbursed.
  • Provide Social Insurance Number (SIN), date of birth, and proof of educational qualifications at the time of an offer.
Employment Conditions
  • Start date: Immediately upon receipt of satisfactory background checks.
  • Hours: 7.5 hrs per week (partial‑time, long‑term opportunity).
  • Location: Riverside (specific commuting instructions not provided here).
