About the Opportunity:

This exciting dual-role position offers a unique opportunity to combine practical forest management experience with strategic operational responsibilities. You will contribute 50% of your time to hands-on forest management activities and 50% to supporting the Chief Operating Officer in overseeing the company's daily operations. This is an ideal role for an ambitious individual looking to develop both practical skills in the field and strategic expertise in a leadership capacity.

Tasks:

  • Supervise planting, early competition control, and pre-commercial thinning.
  • Secure and manage public funding for projects.
  • Conduct thorough stumpage and land valuations.
  • Utilize technology such as GPS, drones, and GIS software for data collection and analysis.
  • Adhere to strict safety protocols and regulations.
  • Interact with landowners, contractors, and regulatory bodies.

Junior COO Responsibilities (50%):

  • Support the COO in the strategic development and execution of company operations.
  • Assist in management planning and coordination across departments.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of company-wide strategies.
  • Manage and prioritize projects to meet deadlines and objectives.
  • Maintain effective communication and reporting to the COO and other stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients.
  • Participate in regular meetings and contribute to decision-making processes.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in forestry operations (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience in a support or junior management role (preferred, but not required).
  • Strong understanding of forest management principles and practices.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong network of industry contacts and experience marketing various wood products.
  • Proven ability to engage with landowners and manage land acquisition.
  • Exceptional organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and make sound judgments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, ArcGIS, and the use of smartphones and drones.
  • Valid Nova Scotia driver's license (Class 5 or equivalent) and reliable vehicle suitable for forest roads.
  • Current residency in Canada and valid work permit are required.

What We Offer:

  • Continuous Development and Growth: Emphasizing continuous personal and professional development, with the potential for becoming an integral part of the team, and even exploring entrepreneurial roles based on strong performance.
