Job description
Company description

Vincent Design Inc. is an Indigenous-led digital agency based in Winnipeg. We partner with purpose-driven organizations to design and build websites and digital products that are usable, accessible, and built to last.

Role overview

We’re hiring a WordPress Web Developer (full-time, on-site in Winnipeg) to build and maintain WordPress websites with a strong emphasis on accessibility (WCAG), performance, and clean, maintainable implementation. You’ll collaborate closely with designers, PMs, and other developers to deliver thoughtful, user-centered work.

What you’ll do
  • Build and maintain WordPress websites (custom themes and components/blocks), from implementation through launch and ongoing improvements.
  • Develop custom Gutenberg blocks (or block patterns) and maintain flexible content systems that editors can use confidently.
  • Implement designs with a focus on semantic HTML, ARIA where appropriate, keyboard navigation, screen-reader behavior, and form accessibility.
  • Perform accessibility QA and remediation (manual testing + tools), and support accessible content authoring patterns.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, fix bugs, and improve site stability.
  • Optimize for performance (Core Web Vitals), caching, image handling, and front-end efficiency.
  • Work with common WordPress plugins and ecosystems (e.g., form builders, multilingual, SEO, caching, security) while avoiding “plugin soup.”
  • Participate in code reviews, estimate work, document decisions, and contribute to repeatable internal standards.
What we’re looking for
  • Strong hands-on WordPress development experience (theme development, hooks, templates, WP admin/content model).
  • Experience building block editor experiences (custom blocks and/or block-based themes), or a clear path to doing so.
  • Practical accessibility expertise: you’ve shipped sites that meet WCAG 2.1 AA (or you’ve done substantial remediation work).
  • Solid front-end fundamentals: HTML/CSS/JS with attention to responsive behavior and cross-browser consistency.
  • Comfortable working in modern dev workflows (Git, local environments, staging/production releases).
  • Strong debugging skills (you can isolate the problem, propose options, and implement fixes safely).
  • Clear communicator who collaborates well with design and non-technical teammates.
Nice to have
  • Experience with Gravity Forms and building accessible form patterns.
  • Familiarity with performance tooling (Lighthouse, WebPageTest, Core Web Vitals) and remediation techniques.
  • Experience with multilingual sites (WPML/Polylang) and content-heavy information architecture.
  • Comfort with basic server/environment concepts (DNS, SSL, caching layers, deployment processes).
  • Familiarity with Indigenous cultures and stories (an asset).
Working style / expectations
  • Full-time, on-site in Winnipeg, MB.
  • You care about quality: accessible, maintainable builds and predictable delivery.
  • You’re comfortable balancing implementation speed with long-term sustainability.
Qualifications
  • Equivalent professional experience is welcome in place of a degree.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science / Web Development or related field is an asset, not a requirement.
