Job description
Water Treatment Operator

(Permanent Full-Time) Located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, West Vancouver is a vibrant community on the North Shore and home to parks, beaches, and to sports, recreation and arts amenities. Our dedicated staff deliver services, operate facilities and run the programs that enhance the well‑being of our community. The Utilities Operations Department is seeking a permanent full‑time Water Treatment Operator to join a team of professionals responsible for operating and maintaining the District’s two water treatment facilities and single wastewater treatment facility. Reporting to the Supervisor, Treatment, this position will be responsible for:

  • Inspecting, monitoring, controlling, and maintaining all aspects of the facilities;
  • Monitoring and controlling the pre‑treatment, flows, and current demands of the water distribution system;
  • Performing sampling and laboratory tests of plant processes to ensure efficient and effective operation;
  • Assisting in the on‑site training of other District staff as required;
  • Performing standby duties and other related work as required.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Thorough working knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the maintenance, repair, inspection and operation of micro and ultra‑filtration membranes and related equipment;
  • Considerable knowledge of the hazards and proper safety procedures required in the operation of the plants and related facilities;
  • Completion of Grade 12 and EOCP Certification – Water Treatment Operator Level 1, 2, 3, or 4, Small Wastewater Systems;
  • W.H.M.I.S Training;
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of B.C.

The preferred candidate will possess:

  • EOCP Certification – Chlorine Handling;
  • EOCP Certification – Water Distribution Operator Level 1, 2, 3 or 4;
  • EOCP Certification – Wastewater Treatment Operator Level 1, 2 or 3;
  • Two years of related experience in the operation of a Level 3/4 Membrane Water Treatment Plant;
  • Experience with Pall micro‑filtration and Zeeweed 1000 series membrane plants;
  • Experience and training with SCADA systems and computers.
