Job summary

A leading engineering firm in the dredging industry is looking for an experienced Engineer to join their team in Canada. The position involves supervising engine room personnel, ensuring maintenance tasks are completed accurately, and maintaining safety standards on board. Candidates must have at least 5 years of relevant experience, the ability to work long hours, and must be prepared to live aboard the vessel during rotations. Job description

• Inventory, requisition, and procure spare parts, fuel, lubrication oils, and other materials required for efficient and safe operations of the engine room.

• Communicate with the Port Engineer regarding vessel repairs and maintenance.

• Complete Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and/or Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA).

• Delegate engine room personnel to perform maintenance tasks and repairs on pumps, motors, diesel engines, and other equipment on the dredge and attendant plant.

• Supervise repairs to ensure they meet specified standards.

• Keep accurate records to create engine room logs and inventories.

• Track fuel, oil, and water consumption.

• Define and schedule maintenance priorities.

• Abide by company and worksite safety policies to maintain a "Safety First" workplace.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises engine room personnel during a 12-hour shift. Responsibilities include training, planning, assigning, directing work, appraising performance, disciplining employees, and resolving complaints.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as an Engineer or equivalent.

• Ability to work an 84-hour workweek.

• Ability to live aboard the vessel for the full rotation.

• Ability to understand hand signals and verbal commands in English.

• Applicant must provide their own hand tools.

Certifications or Licenses

Include relevant certifications or licenses as required.

Physical Requirements

Work frequently requires pushing, pulling, bending, standing for long periods, climbing stairs and ladders. Must be able to lift or carry equipment, supplies, and parts up to 50 lbs., unassisted.
