About the Role

The Community Support Assistant (CSA) supports clients in high support housing. The CSA provides dedicated assistance to clients in maintaining personal grooming and hygiene routines by prompting bathing and dental care to the appropriate clinical staff. The CSA will also provide guidance in household management activities such as housecleaning, laundry, grocery shopping, meal planning, safe food handling and home safety. Additionally, the CSA will foster clients' social, recreational and leisure activities both individually and as a group while advocating for their access to resources and services. Responding to crises and maintaining relationships with stakeholders the CSA will contribute to clients' optimum independence. Monitoring client activities and maintaining records will contribute to progress evaluation and of proactive equipment and supply management will ensure safe operations.

What You Bring

Education / Experience :

  • Community Support Assistant Training Program or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Completion of post-secondary education in health sciences such as Personal Support Worker or Developmental Services Worker training is an asset
  • Experience with working with individuals experiencing mental health and / or addiction issues is an asset

Skills / Abilities :

  • Working knowledge of the Principles of Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Psychopathology
  • Demonstrated skills and abilities in household management, leisure activities and social skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Sound judgment, good problem solving skills, solid interpersonal skills including tact diplomacy and sensitivity to clients, families and others in the community
  • Able to travel and work independently and as a member of a team in various community locations
  • Ability to work flexible hours and shift work schedules as assigned
  • Basic computer skills
  • Demonstrated regular attendance at work

Conditions of Employment :

  • This position shall be conditional upon a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) where indicated, to ensure the absence of relevant criminal convictions.
