TEMPORARY FULL-TIME IPAC REGISTERED PRACTICAL NURSE COMPETITION NO.: GM-2025-20 (Maternity Leave Coverage beginning December 2025 for approximately 18 months)

Position Summary
Reporting to and working in collaboration with the Infection Control & Employee Wellness Supervisor, the Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) RPN will support the day-to-day operations of the Home.

Duties

  • Monitor the work being performed by all staff in the Home to ensure compliance with the Long‑Term Care Act, 2021 by performing quality assurance audits.
  • Assess for IPAC‑related issues, processes, gaps, and the need for training of others and provide follow up in the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), hand hygiene, and other IPAC‑related topics.
  • Provide infection prevention and control education to a variety of stakeholders as required including staff, residents, caregivers, visitors, and volunteers with a strong focus on proactive prevention of infection and outbreaks.
  • Participate in the planning, development, organization, implementation and evaluation of the infection prevention and control program.
  • Identify and assist with implementation of improvement activities related to infection control in the Home, as per the City of Timmins Continuous Improvement (CI) initiative.
  • Support the care team in providing safe resident‑centered care within the scope of practice.
  • Provide coverage for the Infection Control & Employee Wellness Co‑ordinator, as required.
  • Fulfill the role of RPN in the Home, as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Registered Practical Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses - teaching/training experience considered an asset.
  • Proof of Professional Liability Protection required.
  • Sound knowledge of applicable provincial regulations and standards for Ontario.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in geriatrics in a clinical health setting.
  • Completion of a recognized infection prevention and control course.
  • Completion of Infection Prevention and Control Certification with CBIC, or willingness to obtain within a timeframe identified.
  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively articulate the important components of an infection prevention and control program with all staff, residents, caregivers, visitors, and volunteers.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate IPAC policies and programs.
  • Effective organizational and planning skills.
  • Demonstrated integrity, effective interpersonal communication, diplomacy, coaching, facilitation, and team‑building skills.
  • Able to work independently and prioritize work in a fast‑paced and challenging environment.
  • Analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with interdisciplinary staff at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) and Point Click Care.
  • Strong work and attendance record required.
  • Flexibility in work schedule, including the ability to work evenings and weekends.
