Diagnostic Imaging provides services to outpatients, inpatients, and emergency patients over a wide variety of modalities which include CT, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, ultrasound, x‑ray, and mammography. Under the direction and guidance of the Radiologist, DI Manager and with direct oversight from a Technologist, the Technologist Assistant will work as part of the DI team to ensure efficient workflow and will be accountable to provide support to both the patient and the Technologist.
Qualifications
- Previous clinical experience as a Medical Radiation Technologist or internationally trained physicians and other Regulated Health Professional preferred
- Pursuing designation with the CMRITO preferred
- Strong knowledge in Medical Terminology and Anatomy (including Cross‑Sectional) education and experienced with positioning
- Previous patient care and handling, ALARA, radiation safety, sterile technique and needle safety experience preferred
- Demonstrated problem recognition and problem solving skills
- Demonstrated good organizational skills, ability to organize work and set priorities
- Ability to work independently or as a team member in a fast‑paced environment
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills with the ability to work well with patients, families, all levels of staff and the community
- Ability to work well independently and to exercise sound judgement

- Must have a satisfactory performance record
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in‑service education in this area
Duties and Responsibilities
- Preparing patients for studies (including answering patient questions, changing patients, reviewing preliminary patient history/screening)
- Insertion and preparation of intravenous access lines (where trained and competent) under direction of technologist/radiologist
- Changing MRI coils, if required
- Receive patients from transport team, conduct basic Transfer of Accountability and communicate to the DI clinical technologist team
- Perform and positive patient identification as per organizational policy
- Assist the technologist in patient transfers and patient positioning
- Assist in clinical documentation in RIS/PACS
- Work in collaboration with regulated and unregulated health care professionals in their assigned clinical area to monitor patient queues and ensure timely flow through scanning rooms
- Verify exam protocols and exam priorities
- Communicate with hospital units on patient procedure preparation and notify Technologists of patient schedules
- Review orders and supporting documents (e.g. bloodwork from HIS/Connecting Ontario) and report any concerns to the Technologist
- In discussions with the Radiologist and Technologist, schedule patients while collaborating with the in‑patient unit or Emergency Department
- Handling of imaging equipment within scope of practice and competency
- Answer the phones in the assigned modality area and provide appropriate responses
- Accountable for scan rooms prepared for patient scan including but not limited to:
- Ensuring the room has linen supplies, patient lines, injector syringes and contrast at beginning of shift and as needed during the day
- Review room supplies and retrieve required supplies for the room
- Place and retrieve store orders of supplies, if required
- Obtain lines and sheets in areas
- Assist Radiologists with procedures (including sterile procedures)
- Perform cross‑functional and other duties as assigned and/or requested

- The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and OPSEU Local 348.
- Successful external applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past six (6) months.
