Qualifications

  • At least 5 years experience in the building industry.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in people management.

About us

Our Building Compliance team are responsible for undertaking the territorial authority functions under the Building Act, working with our community promoting a culture of compliance and understanding, supporting and being empathetic while achieving compliant outcomes.

About the role

As the Team Leader Building Compliance you will provide leadership to the Building Compliance Team to deliver a high quality customer experience. You will provide technical support and guidance to the team and colleagues across wider council on regulatory building matters.

You will be a role model providing on the job coaching and mentoring to support team member development, ensuring their effective contribution.

You will be an effective communicator with the ability to relay technical information in layman's terms and manage conflict resolution through customer engagement.

Key areas of responsibility include
  • Leadership:lead the team, providing direction, technical support and guidance, workload management, empowerment, and motivation. Assist in developing team members to achieve organisational goals.
  • Technical:Providing specialist advice and technical leadership in relation to building matters to team members. Providing specialist advice to internal and external customers
  • Accreditation Compliance:Engage and form positive and collaborative relationships with both IANZ and MBIE to ensure on site assessments run smoothly. Share in the collective responsibility of continuous improvement of the building teams policies, processes, and standard operating procedures to ensure the quality systems remain fit for purpose.
About you

Our ideal Team Leader will have proven industry knowledge and experience, showcase effective management of multiple workstreams, ability to lead a team successfully and mentor their development and be a confident decision maker.

Qualifications and experience
  • At least 5 years experience in the building industry preferably in a similar role
  • At least 2 years experience in people management
  • A NZ Diploma in Building Surveying (Level 6) or equivalent NZ qualification
  • Understanding and application of the Building Act, Regulations, Building Code, Standards, and the consent process (essential)
  • Ability to make technical decisions using sound judgement, risk analysis and research
  • High level digital literacy and experience in a range of software applications
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and time management skills
  • Current Class 1 New Zealand drivers licence
