This role requires 3–5 years of experience in managing Windows Server environments and active directory. Overview

We are looking for an intermediate systems administrator to work in a Windows environment with a small team of 2 other system admins. You will have 3-5 years experience working in Windows Server environments (physical and virtual), VMware ESX 6.5+, and AD administration, along with strong knowledge of networking hardware (firewalls, switches, routers) and Microsoft technologies (Exchange/M365, SharePoint, Azure, Windows 11).

Responsibilities

Infrastructure & Networking

  • Install, configure, and maintain Windows Servers, Active Directory, storage, and network devices.
  • Configure network components (switches, routers, VLANs, firewalls, SAN/NAS).
  • Manage network security (firewalls, VPN, certificates, policies).
  • Implement and maintain SSL/TLS certificates, DNSs.
  • Monitor operational and security systems; interact with vendors and service providers.

Desktop & End-User Support

  • Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 support for desktops, laptops, and end-user systems.
  • Support helpdesk operations, process work requests, and deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Monitor tickets for SLA compliance and prioritize accordingly.

Security & Compliance

  • Install and maintain antivirus, intrusion detection, and endpoint security software (e.g., Kaspersky, CrowdStrike).
  • Ensure compliance with disaster recovery RTO and RPO requirements; contribute to DR planning and testing.
  • Assist in capacity planning to meet application and project requirements.
  • Participate in security incident resolution process and security remediation initiatives as needed; monitor operational and security systems and interact with vendors and service providers.

Systems and Application Environment Administration

  • Administer Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, IIS, RDP, WSUS, and SQL servers.
  • Perform patching, updates, and maintenance during scheduled windows.
  • Maintain documentation for systems and processes.
  • Participate in application releases, fixes, and change deployments for the different environments during normal business hours and during maintenance windows.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • 3–5 years of experience in system administration and IT support with a college or university degree (preferred)
  • Knowledge and experience with MS Entra ID and SSO
  • Experience migrating and administering Windows Server 2022/25
  • Expertise in Windows Server environments (physical and virtual), VMware ESX 6.5+, and AD administration.
  • Proficiency with PC/Laptop hardware installation and support (remote, on-site).
  • Strong knowledge of networking hardware (firewalls, switches, routers) and Microsoft technologies (Exchange/M365, SharePoint, Azure, Windows 11).
  • Experience with SAN/NAS storage, backup solutions (Veeam/N-able), and Cisco Meraki.
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes and service management.
  • Proficiency in SSL certificate management, DNS administration, and security tools.
  • Knowledge of .NET framework and SQL Server operations (backup, restore, performance tuning).
Education & Certifications

Post-secondary education – Degree or diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.

CISM Security certification and knowledge of Cybersecurity frameworks like NIST CSF and Cybersecure Canada

A+ Certification is an asset. Microsoft Office Specialist or Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician is ideal.

Additional Requirements

This person will be required to do system and security updates every 3 weeks on Sunday nights between 10:00 PM and Midnight.
