Senior Systems Engineer role with a focus on Linux systems and enterprise storage technologies, spanning engineering, operations, automation, and security. Contract Type: 1-Year Fixed-Term Contract; Location: Montreal, QC (Hybrid – 3 days onsite, 2 days remote per week); Experience Level: Advanced (7–15 years).
Responsibilities
- Manage the full lifecycle of Linux servers (on-premises and cloud): deployment, maintenance, security, and decommissioning.
- Lead initiatives to harden Linux environments using OS-level firewalls, SELinux, auditd, encryption, MFA, and other security best practices.
- Automate routine tasks and operational processes using Bash, Python, Ansible, and REST APIs.
- Monitor and respond to alerts related to Linux, VMware, and storage systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure and application issues.
- Maintain accurate documentation in Confluence and manage source code in Git.
- Track tasks and projects using Jira.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years of hands-on experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux and VMware.
- Strong experience with NetApp storage (NFS / iSCSI / FC) and supporting Oracle DBs in SAN environments.
- Proficiency in scripting and automation using Bash, Python, or Ansible.
- Experience with Red Hat Satellite for patching and vulnerability management.
- Familiarity with CIS benchmarks and security compliance standards.
- Experience with NFSv4 and Kerberos authentication is a plus.
- Exposure to Cisco UCS or similar blade infrastructure is preferred.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Willingness to work occasional off-hours as needed.
- Hybrid Schedule: 3 days onsite in Montreal office, 2 days remote.
- Collaborative Team: Work closely with infrastructure, security, and application teams.
