The Student Assistant, Career Centre role is ideal for a student who is passionate about volunteerism, event planning, communications and student engagement. You’ll play a key role in assisting in the running of the Career Centre Volunteer Program, promoting career-related programs and helping execute events that connect students with employers and career development opportunities.

The Student Assistant, Career Centre will provide support to both the Events Coordinator and the Career Centre Volunteer Program, as well as the Promotions Coordinator, Business Development.

Responsibilities
  • Volunteer Program and Events Support
  • Assist with the planning, logistics and running of the Career Centre Volunteer Program.
  • Build and grow a community of student volunteers interested in promoting workshops, programs, activities and services of the Career Centre to Douglas College students.
  • Assist with training new volunteers including running onboarding sessions and regular team meetings; and helping volunteers enhance their knowledge of career development skills.
  • Assist in increasing student engagement and sign-ups with all Career Centre activities, workshops and programs.
  • Preparation of the weekly Career Centre Volunteer Newsletter.
  • Assist with event planning including marketing, event set-up and take-down, attendee registration, and other onsite support as needed.

Promotions Support

  • Assist in creating and scheduling social media content (Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.) for all current and past students to learn about the Career Centre services
  • Assist with designing, writing/editing and reformatting digital and printed communications for students, faculty and employers to keep promotional items fresh and current.
  • Design promotional materials such as posters, digital signage, and newsletters
  • Using testimonials from employers, faculty advisors and students for publication on Career Centre social media platforms
  • Assist with special projects as required

The Student Assistant, Career Centre will primarily be based at the New Westminster Campus or Anvil Office Tower, with occasional shifts at the Coquitlam campus.

To be Successful in this Role You Will Need:

  • Effective communication skills – able to approach people to share the benefits of the Career Centre programs and services
  • Experience creating promotional materials using Canva
  • Experience posting promotional content and videos on social media (Instagram and LinkedIn)
  • Ability to work well with minimal supervision and self-motivated

Domestic and International student eligibility

  • Domestic students must meet ONE of the following criteria, to be eligible to work as a Student Assistant/Student Research Assistant: enrolled in, and maintain, a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College during the work term; OR enrolled in, and maintained, a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College in the term immediately preceding the work term and intends to enroll in the term immediately following; OR enrolled in, and maintained, a minimum of two or more (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. throughout the work term; OR enrolled in, and maintained, a minimum of two or more (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. in the term immediately preceding the work term and intends to enroll at the institution in the term immediately following.
  • International students must meet ONE of the following criteria, to be eligible to work as a Student Assistant/Student Research Assistant: enrolled in full-time studies at Douglas College throughout the academic year; OR an international student at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. with a valid Study Permit that indicates eligibility to work on campus or off campus as per R186 (F), (V) or (W). Proof of enrollment in full-time studies from the other post-secondary institution is required.

An original copy of a Social Insurance Number (SIN) and an original Study Permit are required by law before commencing work at Douglas College.

Qualified Douglas College students meeting the above criteria will be given first preference over students of other qualifying institutions.

Additional Information

The position is located at the New Westminster and Coquitlam campus. Hours of work: up to a maximum of 20 hours/week. The work terms for this position are:

  1. Fall 2025: September 2, 2025 – December 15, 2025
  2. Winter 2026: January 5, 2026 – April 24, 2026
  3. Summer 2026: May 4, 2026 – August 16, 2026
