The Aboriginal Housing Management Association (AHMA) is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Staff Accountant to join our Finance Team. The Staff Accountant will play a key role in supporting the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) through financial reporting, reconciliation, program support, and financial reviews of member organizations. This position ensures consistent financial standards and compliance across all operations.

Job Description
Position: Staff Accountant
Reports To: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Role Overview:
The Staff Accountant is a senior member of AHMA's Finance Team responsible for conducting financial reviews of AHMA's member organizations, maintaining accurate financial records, analyzing statements, ensuring compliance with operating agreements, and supporting the CFO in strategic financial planning and reporting. The ideal candidate is highly organized, analytical, and experienced in accounting functions, with a strong understanding of Indigenous housing programs and nonprofit financial operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Conducts financial reviews of non-profit societies in accordance with operating agreements

Analyzes financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and management letters

Prepares financial reports and recommends adjustments to budgets and financial planning

Manages Accounts Payable/Receivable, journal entries, and monthly/quarterly financial statements

Ensures compliance with subsidy and audit requirements

Assists with preparing consolidated budgets and liaises with auditors

Supports implementation of financial controls and strategic financial planning

Uses various databases and accounting software for financial tracking and reporting

Education and Experience:

Post-secondary degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration

CPA designation or candidacy preferred

Minimum 3 years of experience in full-cycle accounting

Experience with Indigenous communities, non-profits, or property management is an asset

Experience with multi-company organizations and inter-company transactions is an asset

Intermediate to advanced computer skills

Skills and Competencies:

Sound knowledge of accounting and budgeting practices

Familiarity with BC Housing funding programs

Strong attention to detail and accuracy

Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities

Strong oral and written communication skills

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Team-oriented with the ability to work independently
