Position

Position: Sports and Recreation Facilitator
Starting Range: $24.57 – $31.37 (Pending Education & Experience)
Location: Garden River Recreation Centre
Report to: Recreation Supervisor

Position Summary

The Sports and Recreation Facilitator (SRF) will be responsible for the coordination of programming and fundraising initiatives for the Garden River First Nation Recreation Unit. The SRF will work with partners to ensure that sport, recreation, leisure and cultural needs and interests of Garden River First Nation residents/employees are met. The SRF will work to increase programming, participation, visibility within the community by raising awareness of programs and activities offered. The SRF duties fall under the following categories: planning, programming and special event coordination, marketing, communication, and community recreation maintenance and development. The Sports and Recreation Facilitator functions within the legislative requirements, regulations, policies and procedures and the Mission, Beliefs and Vision of the Garden River First Nation, and contributes to the accomplishment of the strategic priorities.

Duties
  • Plan seasonal recreation program/event schedules that meet the needs and interest of the demographics
  • Coordinate program/event logistics (i.e. booking facilities, instructor coordination, scheduling, etc.)
  • Development and maintenance of other recreation areas within the community (ballfield, basketball courts, outdoor rink) and assisting with the coordination of rental activities (i.e. other departments, conferences, birthdays)
  • Budgeting for programs and events (registration fees, supplies)
  • Assist with marketing both the gymnasium and fitness centre
  • Coordinate and assist with the summer day camp
  • Maintain ongoing communication with public and partners
  • Assist with annual budget processes
  • Assist in the development of a strategic (3-5) annual plans aligned with the Garden River First Nation Chief and Council
  • Assist and participate in the Little NHL Committee
  • Apply for operating and project grants through funding proposals
  • Solicit donations and conduct fundraising opportunities as required and research potential sponsors
  • Create marketing material, maintain records of sponsors, continued research and applications for funding
  • Performing other related duties as may be required and assigned.
Qualifications
  • Certificate, Diploma or a Degree in relevant field of Recreation, Administration or related field
  • Minimum of 2 years experience with community recreation, administration, facility operation and or public relations
  • Current CPR and Basic First Aid qualifications
  • Valid Drivers License
  • WHMIS training certification required
  • Strong working knowledge of recreation programs, marketing, budget management, loss and risk management
  • Proven planning, managing, organizing and implementing skills
  • Proven leadership, team, and personnel development and relationship building skills
  • Sound knowledge of policies, procedures, principles and practices involved in the administration of community services
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to and knowledge of First Nation cultural values and traditions
  • Must undergo a criminal record vulnerable sector check prior to employment (At Applicant Expense)
