Gymnastics Canada (GymCan) is the national governing body for the sport of gymnastics in Canada, overseeing all Olympic disciplines including men’s (MAG) and women’s (WAG) artistic, rhythmic (RG), trampoline (TR), and the other world level disciplines. WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
SPORT DEVELOPMENT LEAD (3-DAYS/ WEEK, 1-YEAR MATERNITY LEAVE CONTRACT)
Reporting to the CEO, the Sport Development Lead is responsible for the management and execution of Sport Development Programs for Gymnastics Canada.
- Support the development and collaboration of a growth strategy in conjunction with the Provincial/Territorial Gymnastics Organizations (PTOs).
- Manage and sustain sport development programs, mainly in the discipline of Gymnastics for All that will support consistent excellence across gymnastics in Canada and on the international stage.
- Manage effective working relationships with targeted committees.
- Primary contact for PTOs and other national and international partner organizations involved in sport development, including “Federation Internationale de Gymnastique” (FIG), and Sport for Life (S4L).
- Primary liaison for Sport Canada, overseeing strategic funding applications, ensuring timely submission of all compliance reports, and ensuring all associated staff are accountable for deliverables.
- Lead and monitor the financial aspects of all related areas of Sport Development.
- Oversee and execute the Canadian delegation logistics, planning and strategy for the 2027 World Gymnaestrada.
Grassroots and Gymnastics for All
- In conjunction with the PTOs, support the process of development for a multi‑year strategy for membership growth.
- Provide monthly Council meetings for PTOs on recreational gymnastics development areas, leading collaboration for initiatives that align with the Long-Term Development (LTD) pathway for gymnastics. This may include programs such as Masters, Special Olympics, and Para‑Gymnastics.
- Carry out the on‑going implementation and evaluation of the national recreational skill program, as determined within the strategy including:
- Manage and provide logistical project support to the PTOs.
- Create and manage feedback process for the Active Start and Fundamentals program resources: videos, skill workbooks, lesson plans, certificates.
- Working with communications department to review video materials and translation components and ongoing promotion of the programs in collaboration with the PTOs.
- Support the Senior High‑Performance Director in Gymnastics LTD Model revisions.
Sport Canada
- In conjunction with the CEO, manage and coordinate the requirements listed in the contribution agreement (February, March, June, September, December 2026 Reporting)
- Monthly meetings with program analyst.
2027 World Gymnaestrada
- Lead the preparation for Canada’s participation in the 2027 World Gymnaestrada
- FIG Contact for updated information from the Local Organizing Committee (LOC).
- Lead monthly updates to PTOs on registration and club information.
- Select and Oversee GymCan Management Team (Interim Head of Delegation, Performance Managers, and Medical Team).
- Produce information bulletins for Gymnaestrada groups and PTOs.
- Create and oversee registration process and submit as determined by the LOC.
- Attend in person information meeting in Lisbon, POR (Spring 2026).
- Work with uniform partner/supplier to communicate ordering process to Canadian delegation members.
WHO YOU ARE
- Bachelor’s degree, with a specialty in Sport Management or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
- Knowledge of Sport Canada funding and reporting processes.
- Experience with managing large delegations (attending international events considered an asset).
- Knowledge of the Canadian Sport System – gymnastics knowledge an asset.
- Excellent communicator, with exceptional written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
