Job description
Position Summary

Currently accepting applications for the January 2026 program intake. We are seeking a motivated Registered Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join our team in the Rural General department at McBride & District Hospital. The RN practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice and code of ethics as outlined by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) and within a patient- and family-centered care model. The RN works in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate client care and may work in multiple clinical settings depending on location. Rural community hospitals provide a wide range of services, and this role may require competency in several areas requiring advanced training and experience.

Training Program Details

The Northern Health Regional Emergency Department Education Program (REDEP) utilizes a standardized online curriculum called Emergency Nursing Orientation (ENO) to prepare registered nurses for safe and competent emergency nursing care at a novice level. There is 1 training position available for 2025/2026. Northern Health provides placement support and funding for tuition, textbooks, and travel expenses for clinical placements, as required. Successful candidates may be required to complete pre-requisite courses through part-time distance education, prior to assuming this position. Learners should expect a 4–6 month commitment for this education, which includes online and in-person learning, with additional study time outside scheduled hours. Must have completed Heart and Stroke BLS in the last 6 months. Flexibility for practicums is necessary. Prior experience on an acute care ward (i.e., medical/surgical) is preferred. Current BLS certification within a year is mandatory prior to the skills/simulation. Preference for participants who have completed an electrocardiogram (ECG) course prior to beginning REDEP. Applicants must successfully complete the education program prior to working in the department. Upon successful completion, a18-month return of service in a regular nursing position in the applicable area is required. Qualified applicants will be considered first for specialty positions; if none are qualified, training will be awarded to unqualified applicants with training provided.

Shift and Work Location

Shift Rotation/Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, Days, 08:00 to 16:00.

Qualifications
  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration with the BCCNM.

  • Emergency: Advanced preparation in an ED clinical specialty or an equivalent combination of education and experience. CPR within three years.
  • Perinatal: Advanced preparation in a Perinatal clinical specialty or equivalent. Current Fetal Health Surveillance (FHS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within 2 years. CPR within three years.
