About the Role

Responsible for the design, development and implementation of standards, methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision and accuracy of company products in compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements. Performs analysis on reported nonconformities and discrepancies related to assembly, process, mechanical, electrical, electro-mechanical systems, field and test data. Further investigates the cause for discrepancies and nonconformities to develop disposition and corrective action plans. Supports material review board and Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) activities. Interfaces with manufacturing, engineering, customer, vendor and supplier quality to ensure requirements are met. Conducts program quality management through new product and engineering change, managing critical to quality aspects of the design as they relate to preventative elimination of failure modes and implementation of control plans. Serves as the primary interface to the organization for quality related concerns.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Accountable to priority quality issue resolution, utilizing root cause, corrective action tools to effectively contain, eliminate recurrence, and institutionalize actions across business.
  • Compile and analyze quality performance data, providing quality information to the work cell to identify and lead resolution of emerging trends
  • Initiate and close zero-defect initiatives required to improve product quality, aligned with trend data and operational excellence quality systems framework
  • Ownership of quality metrics including Cost of Poor Quality, Defects per Thousand Hours, Customer Escapes, and First Pass Yield.
  • Support design and development through front loading and design for quality in new product introduction and engineering changes.
  • Lead/Support FEMA (Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis), CAR (Corrective Action Request) process for both customer and internal CARs, RCCA (Root Cause Corrective Action process)
  • Follow a structured problem-solving approach using 8D and Six Sigma tools
  • Coordinate with Production, Operations Engineering, Engineering and Program Management to conduct product and process failure analysis and determine root cause corrective and preventative action
  • Function as project manager as required in support of task teams created to address quality issues and strategic initiatives
  • Must be able to communicate data in daily/weekly/monthly meetings
  • Perform layered process audits and provide inputs to improve quality of audit

  • Ability to root cause quality issues that surface in a product manufacturing operation eg. 8D, PEFEMA
Desired Education and Experiences
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (mechanical, materials, engineering science) or science
  • 5 years of product development, manufacturing quality control or test experience desired
  • Professional Engineering designation an asset
  • Six Sigma Green belt or Black Belt designation is an asset
  • Quality Assurance/Auditing/Investigation experience an asset
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001/AS9100 processes
  • Prior experience working with military/defense programs is highly desired
  • PMP certification desired
