The Site Training Specialist – Safety and Compliance is responsible for the development, coordination, delivery, and continuous improvement of site-specific safety and compliance training programs. The Specialist will work closely with the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) leadership team, operations, contractors, and subject matter experts to ensure ongoing compliance with the Rook I Training Program. This role ensures all personnel meet regulatory, corporate, and project training requirements while promoting a strong safety culture and consistent standards across the site. Key responsibilities include verifying worker competency, supporting regulatory compliance, and enhancing overall site performance through effective training systems.
Location note: This position will be based at the Rook I site on a 2 week in/2 week out schedule. Accommodations and meals are provided while on rotation. Travel logistics to/from site are coordinated by NexGen. Circumstances may require work based out of the Saskatoon office periodically.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain site-specific safety, compliance, and competency-based training programs.
- Coordinate onboarding, orientation, and mandatory training for employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Ensure training programs align with applicable legislation, standards, company policies, and site requirements.
- Track, document, and maintain accurate training records and competency verification in approved systems such as SuccessFactors and ISNetworld.
- Conduct training needs assessments and gap analyses to identify required improvements or updates.
- Deliver classroom, field-based, and virtual training sessions using a variety of instructional methods to support diverse learning needs.
- Support incident investigations by reviewing training records and identifying learning or competency gaps.
- Collaborate with HSE, operations, and contractor representatives to ensure consistent training standards.
- Monitor training effectiveness and recommend improvements based on feedback, audits, and performance data to support audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews related to training and competency.
- Stay current with regulatory changes, industry best practices, and emerging training methodologies.
- Promote a culture of continuous learning, accountability, and safety excellence.
- Coordinate external training providers and certifications as required.
- Commit to ongoing professional development to support evolving site-specific training needs.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Adult Education, Training & Development, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5–10 years of experience in industrial, construction, or resource-sector environments.
- Experience utilizing the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) to analyze, design & development, implement & evaluate training.
- Recognized safety certification (e.g., NCSO, CRSP, or equivalent) is considered an asset.
- Proven experience delivering safety and compliance training in a high-risk work environment.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory training requirements and competency management systems.
- Experience with learning management systems (LMS) and training record management.
- Adult education or train-the-trainer certification is considered an asset.
