About the role

Join CRO’s Financial Risk Oversight team, in the Senior Specialist, Financial Risk Oversight (Capital Markets Risk) position. In the role, you will provide risk oversight in monitoring and managing financial risks to CMHC in support of strategic corporate objectives. As a member of the team, you will be a key contributor to monitoring and reporting on enterprise-wide financial risks related to Capital Investments, Market, Liquidity, Counterparty Credit, Mortgage Loan Insurance, Housing Programs and/or Securitization.

What you’ll do:
  • Conduct independent oversight to ensure CMHC’s financial risk management and risk control activities are robust and effective.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert to identify, assess, measure, monitor and report on key financial risks to the Corporation.
  • Employ a combination of quantitative and qualitative assessment techniques such as financial statement analysis; internal data analysis; risk policy compliance; risk appetite development or monitoring and consultation and collaboration with internal stakeholders.
  • Use tools, models, and analytics to assess and measure financial risk exposure relative to risk appetite and build and maintain forward looking capabilities.
  • Provide support and guidance to the business lines on risk management frameworks and policies to ensure effective management of risks and controls.
  • Influence strategic direction, policy setting and business decisions using analytics and risk assessment results.
  • Remain current regarding regulatory guidance and industry-leading practices related to business and financial risk management and the housing market industry.
  • Identify emerging issues and trends to inform decision-making and develop innovative solutions to complex problems to present to senior management.
What you should have:
  • A postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline such as finance, accounting or business management.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in capital markets and financial risk oversight experience or related relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in utilizing risk management practices.
  • Demonstrated expertise in some of the following areas: investments, capital markets, capital management, credit risk, rating methodologies, liquidity management, understanding of financial instruments, etc.
  • Superior communication and presentation skills with demonstrated expertise in articulating complex concepts to various levels of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct analysis to support problem-solving and decision-making.
It would be great if you also had:
  • A professional designation, certification and/or specific training in risk management or financial analysis (e.g., Chartered Financial Analyst, Professional/Certified Risk Manager, Financial Risk Management, Chartered Professional Accountant).
  • Experience developing and maintaining stochastic projections and forward-looking capabilities to quantify risk and provide data-driven insights.
  • Experience in data analytics and/or risk reporting leveraging programming capabilities like Python or R.
  • Bilingualism in both official languages (English & French) would be an asset.
