Overview

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

The shift pattern for this post is: Monday – Friday, 08:30 – 16:30. This is a fixed term post for 24 months. You must have a valid NMC pin to be recruited to this post.

The Glasgow Clinical Research Facility incorporates Clinical Research Facilities at the QEUH/RHC and GRI, with satellite units at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Gartnavel General Hospital and the Dental Hospital. Jointly they provide a streamlined service to investigators to conduct their clinical research efficiently and safely.

The Glasgow Clinical Research Facility (CRF) is recruiting an experienced, enthusiastic and innovative Senior Paediatric Research Nurse to assist in providing high quality nursing care for children and their families participating in Clinical Research. Research experience is desirable but equivalent clinical experience will be accepted. You will be trained and supported to coordinate the recruitment, treatment, education, monitoring and follow up of research participants and the collection and documentation of accurate study data. You will work collaboratively with Principal and Chief Investigators and the wider multi-disciplinary team in the management of your own caseload of research patients.

You will be a First Level Registered Paediatric Nurse with relevant clinical experience (renal experience is desirable) and educated to (or working towards) degree level. Research experience is highly desirable although transferable skills can be demonstrated. You will work to research principles including confidentiality, randomisation procedures, informed consent and ethical issues, and an understanding of research within the context of the Research Governance Framework and good clinical Practice. Attention to detail, strong organisational and communication skills, good IT skills and a methodical approach are key requirements, along with a proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.

The Clinical Research Facility has research nurse cover from 08:00-17:00 Monday to Friday; predominantly the hours are 08:30-16:30 but there is a requirement to take a flexible approach to meet the needs of research studies, with a requirement to work unsocial hours and weekends as necessary. The ability to travel between all sites within NHSGGC is essential.

Responsibilities

Coordinate recruitment, treatment, education, monitoring and follow-up of research participants; ensure accurate collection and documentation of study data; work with Principal and Chief Investigators and the multidisciplinary team; manage a caseload of research patients; adhere to research principles and governance, consent processes, and ethical guidelines.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Registered Paediatric Nurse, educated to degree level (or working towards)
  • Evidence of continuing personal development
  • Significant, current and relevant clinical experience in renal specialties (desirable)
  • Ability to prioritise own and staff workload to achieve agreed timelines, quality standards and targets
  • First Level Registered Paediatric Nurse with relevant clinical experience
  • Good IT, organisational and communication skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Understanding of confidentiality, randomisation procedures, informed consent and ethical issues
  • Desirable: Experience of working in both academic and commercial research; knowledge of current research regulations and governance requirements
