Your Responsibilities as a Senior Legal Counsel:

  1. Legal Advisory: Partner with technology, sales, and business teams to provide guidance on complex commercial and technology-related matters.
  2. Contract Management: Draft, review, and negotiate agreements including software, cloud services, data/AI, licensing, vendor, and client contracts (e.g., NDAs, MSAs, SOWs, RFPs).
  3. Strategic Negotiation: Lead negotiations, assess legal risks, and develop creative, business-aligned solutions.
  4. Stakeholder Collaboration: Build trusted relationships with internal teams, external partners, and advisors.
  5. Compliance & Best Practices: Monitor regulatory changes, industry trends, and update legal templates, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance and innovation.
  6. Legal Operations Support: Provide legal input on internal processes, vendor risk, training, and technology-related initiatives.
  7. External Counsel Management: Coordinate with external legal advisors as needed.
  8. Special Projects: Contribute to strategic initiatives and projects that advance business goals and objectives.

What We’re Looking For in a Senior Legal Counsel:

  1. 8+ years of post-call legal experience in a law firm or corporate in-house role.
  2. Bachelor of Law (LL.B.) or Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited Canadian university; licensed in Manitoba (or eligible for transfer).
  3. Deep knowledge of technology and commercial law; experience in payroll or financial services is an asset.
  4. Strong negotiation, analytical, and business acumen.
  5. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  6. Excellent communication, relationship-building, and collaboration skills.
  7. Commitment to ongoing learning and development.
  8. Bilingualism (French / English) is a plus.
