About the role

Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, the Senior Lead, Training and Development is responsible for developing, governing, and advancing the various training programs across the Fording River Mine Site. This senior role provides high‑level direction, oversight, and mentorship to the training team, ensuring alignment with site and organizational priorities, regulatory requirements, and operational excellence.

The Senior Lead oversees the Mine Operations, Maintenance, and Processing Training Coordinators, ensuring each department’s training needs are proactively identified, effectively delivered, and continuously improved. Through strong leadership and collaboration, this role ensures training systems, processes, and standards are consistently applied and optimized across the site.

A critical component of this position is active participation as a key member of the region’s senior training leadership team. In this capacity, the Senior Lead contributes to regional strategy, drives standardization of training practices, and champions the adoption of best‑in‑class policy and procedures.

In this role you will
  • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of comprehensive training and development strategies to drive operational excellence
  • Ensure training programs align with corporate standards by applying consistent instructional design principles and conducting regular evaluations for effectiveness
  • Design and deliver proficiency‑based training programs derived from safe work procedures, incorporating simulator training, classroom instruction, and hands‑on fieldwork with a focus of driving best practice and standardization across the region
  • Explore and implement innovative, efficient instructional methods and technologies to improve employee learning, engagement, and retention
  • Develop and maintain performance evaluation systems to accurately assess training effectiveness in relation to safety, productivity, and operational readiness
  • Collaborate with departmental leaders to assess talent development needs, increase workforce versatility, and track training progress and employee readiness
Requirements
  • Minimum 10 years hands‑on experience in an industrial mining environment
  • Proven experience in developing and delivering consistent, effective training programs for employees and new hires
  • Demonstrated supervisory or leadership experience with the ability to coach and mentor others
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to collaborate across teams and influence positive training outcomes
  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail; adaptable and able to manage competing priorities effectively
  • Capable of instructing adult learners at all levels in a clear, concise, and engaging manner
  • Technologically proficient with strong digital literacy; skilled in writing, content development, and electronic presentations
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License or equivalent

$137,000 - $170,000 a year

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
