SENIOR ANALYST, PEOPLE DATA

The Opportunity

BC Ferries is transforming the way we use workforce data—and we’re looking for a Senior Analyst, People Data to help lead that evolution. In this strategic and technical role, you will help shape the future of HR analytics, elevating how we use data to make organization-wide decisions that impact 5,000+ employees across the fleet and terminals.

This is your opportunity to be a key partner in advancing BC Ferries’ analytical capabilities, working at the intersection of People, workforce planning, and enterprise data strategy. You will design predictive models, build scalable data solutions, create influential dashboards, and serve as a technical advisor on how HR data is captured, structured, visualized, and leveraged. You will work closely with Workforce Planning & Optimization teams, People Experience (PX) Business Partners, and senior leadership—helping to ensure workforce decisions are informed, proactive, and aligned with our long‑term strategic goals.

The Role

Reporting to the Manager, People Analytics, you add value and are energized by key areas of oversight such as:

  • Taking ownership of HR Data & Reporting initiatives developing end‑to‑end analytics and reporting projects, from concept through implementation, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and imperatives;
  • Acting as strategic and technical advisor in collaborating with HR business partners, Workforce Planning, and business leaders to deliver actionable insights that inform headcount strategy, talent optimization, and workforce planning, as well as other People & Safety initiatives;
  • Maintaining relational data models and develop dashboard reports in a complex ecosystem of platforms;
  • Acting as a subject matter expert for HR data systems, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and governance across multiple platforms and data sources;
  • Designing and maintaining predictive models to forecast trends in talent acquisition, retention, engagement, scheduling, and workforce efficiency;
  • Translating complex analytical findings into clear, compelling narratives and visualizations that drive executive decision‑making;
  • Taking initiative on the evaluation and implementation of new tools and methodologies to advance the organization’s analytics maturity and self‑service reporting capabilities;
  • Providing analytical guidance and modeling to support strategic workforce and operational planning over 1‑5 year horizons;
  • Supporting the People Improvement Project as a key technical resource and strategic advisor for analytics strategy, and reporting capabilities across the HR and Scheduling systems transformations;
  • Conducting comprehensive assessments of the system’s native analytics and reporting functionality to identify limitations, unmet business requirements, and opportunities for enhancement;
  • Developing, testing, and deploying supplemental reporting or data solutions (e.g., dashboards, or custom SQL/Python/BI tools) to address gaps identified within of new HR and Scheduling systems;
What you bring to the team
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Data Analytics, Computer Science, or related field or an equivalent combination of related education and experience. Master’s degree preferred
  • 5-7 years of experience in a related HR Analytics, Workforce Scheduling capacity including working with business stakeholders to guide and build strategic insights
  • 5-7 years of advanced proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or similar) and data querying (SQL, Python, DAX etc.)
  • 4-6 years of experience interpreting collective agreement languages, working with scheduling and workforce optimization groups, and proficiency in data visualization tools and statistical modeling
  • Proactive and collaborative: Anticipates data gaps, takes initiative on solutions, and works effectively with HR partners and leadership
  • Advanced analytics and data storytelling: Builds predictive models, maintains relational data structures, and translates insights into clear dashboards and narratives
  • Detail‑oriented and strategic: Ensures data accuracy while thinking big‑picture to align analytics with organizational goals

The target salary range: $105,200 - $131,500 per annum. The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience and internal equity.
