Job summary

A leading provider in residential services located in Peel Region, Mississauga is seeking a Senior Corporate Accountant. This role is crucial in providing accounting and analytical support to the Corporate Accounting team. Responsibilities include preparing financial statements, managing reconciliations, liaising with auditors, and supporting various financial initiatives. The ideal candidate will have over 3 years in general accounting, possess a relevant degree, and ideally a CPA. A focus on analytical skills and attention to detail is essential.

Job description

Senior Corporate Accountant will be an integral part of the Corporate Accounting team whose primary responsibilities will be to provide accounting and analytical support for the Corporate team as well as special projects.

Key Activities
  • Prepare and analyze monthly reconciliations for various general ledger accounts
  • Review and post monthly accounting and bank entries
  • Prepare financial statements and notes disclosure for financial statements and MDA for areas of responsibility
  • Prepare balance sheet analysis at financial statement level
  • Ensure consistency between various externally published documents such as financial statements, MDA, MIC, AIF, investor presentation, press release.
  • Manage the administration and communication of new mortgages and ensure appropriate mortgage treatment
  • Review and interpret debt documentation
  • Prepare preliminary debt related reports for the board
  • Manage the administration of covenant reporting
  • Prepare legal entity financial statements
  • Liaise with external auditors and internal audit team to provide the documents needed for review and audit
  • Liaise with operations finance and property managers to ensure proper understanding of results and transactions, while providing guidance over complex accounting items and other issues
  • Support the balance sheet and income statement audit and review processes
  • Support the effort to prepare annual budget for areas of responsibility
  • Support corporate accounting projects and business plan initiatives
  • Support financing, acquisition and divestiture activities
  • Prepare complex journal entries
  • Identify and implement financial and operational process improvements and streamline workflow
  • Other ad-hoc activities as assigned
Experience & Education
  • 3+ years of experience in general accounting and financial reporting, including financial statements preparation
  • Knowledge of IFRS
  • Looking to pursue a career in accounting and financial reporting
  • Post-secondary degree in accounting, finance, or business administration
  • Currently possesses or in the final stages of completion of the professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA)
  • Experience with accounting software, specifically OneStream and Yardi (preferred)
Skills & Abilities
  • Strong analytical skills and possesses a natural interest towards analytical activities and investigation, as well as strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong excel skills is mandatory
  • Ability to manage and validate large amounts of data
  • Excellent interpersonal communications and the ability to present ideas in a user friendly format
  • Easily adapts to changes, delays, or unexpected events in the work environment
  • The ability to organize and prioritize work to meet defined deadlines in a large fast-paced work environment
  • A focus on continuous improvement and quality.
