Senior Accountant position at Sacred Waters Developments (SWD). Location: Metro Vancouver, BC. Employment type: Full-time, 40 hours/week, Hybrid. Reports to: Director, Finance. Career Level: P3 (Professional).

About Sacred Waters: Sacred Waters Developments Ltd (SWD) is an economic development company jointly owned by the Katzie, Kwantlen and Semiahmoo (KKS) Nations, with a mandate to foster economic and social growth opportunities in the Nations’ shared traditional territories.

SWD delivers value through partnerships and project delivery that honors culture and stewardship practices. The organization collaborates with the KKS Nations and external partners to pursue land and real estate development opportunities within the shared traditional territories, and to build out consulting services including real estate advisory, planning, engagement, sustainability, and more.

The overarching goal of SWD is to be a leader in Indigenous economic development by fostering sustainable, intergenerational prosperity while advancing cultural awareness and land preservation.

The Role

The Senior Accountant plays a key role in the financial operations of SWD, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and compliance in all financial reporting and accounting processes. This role is responsible for day-to-day accounting functions, month-end and year-end close, financial statement preparation, and support for audits and financial analysis. As a designated CPA with significant post-qualification experience, the Senior Accountant applies advanced accounting knowledge and professional judgment to maintain accurate financial records, improve financial processes, and support decision-making across the organization. This position operates with a high degree of independence and provides technical guidance within the Finance team.

What you will do in this role
  • Financial Accounting and Reporting: Perform full-cycle accounting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and IFRS.
  • Complete month-end and year-end reconciliations for balance sheet accounts, including bank, credit cards, and intercompany accounts.
  • File GST and other statutory returns accurately and on time.
  • Compile and distribute monthly internal and external financial reports to management and key partners.
  • Prepare working papers and supporting documentation for audit and year-end review processes.
  • Analysis and Business Support: Conduct ad-hoc financial analysis to support business decisions and management reporting.
  • Analyze variances and trends to support forecasting and budgeting processes.
  • Provide financial insights and technical expertise to departments and project teams.
  • Contribute to process improvements and internal control enhancements.
  • Process and Systems Development: Review and improve accounting processes to increase efficiency and accuracy.
  • Support implementation and optimization of financial systems and tools.
  • Ensure compliance with company accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
