We Invite Applications For The Position Of
  • Program Worker - Youth and Family - Elementary, 30 hours per week, Monday through Friday. The current rate of pay is $34.07 plus 16.3% in lieu of benefits.
Qualifications

Bachelor of Arts Degree in Child and Youth Care, Social Work or an associated discipline supplemented with relevant course work in interpersonal communication skills, counselling theory, CPI preferred, and at least two of the following: child and adolescent psychology, behavioural change theories, family systems (domestic violence, family conflict, substance abuse), abnormal psychology, group processes; minimum of two years current experience working with at‑risk children and youth; skills in collaboration and consultation; ability to facilitate collaboration among schools and community agencies; demonstrated knowledge and skill working with issues including: behaviour disorders, substance abuse, physical and sexual abuse, parenting, family dynamics, the engagement of resistant families, crisis intervention and trauma informed practice; demonstrated ability to work with individuals, families, groups, school staff and community partners; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to liaise with other professionals; ability to respect the confidential nature and protocols of all information relating to students, guardians, teachers and community partners; valid Class 5 B.C. driver’s license and license appropriate to the type of equipment/vehicle being operated and a personal vehicle available for use on the job; meets the physical requirements of the position; ability to work independently and as a member of a team; excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Duties/Responsibilities

Duties are performed under the supervision of Inclusive Education administration, school Principal or designate; provides individual, small group and family support for students assigned to his/her caseload by the School Based Team; recognizes the characteristics of students at risk or in crisis and offers preventive and intervention services; communicates and works with colleagues in the school or in the community at large who are involved co‑jointly with their caseload; facilitates collaboration among schools and community agencies; works with teachers, Principals, and the School Based Team to support school outcome objectives and goals as they relate to a student's Individualized Education/Service Plan; may be required to support students at secondary schools; is available for crisis intervention when identified as necessary by the School Based Team; supports the inclusion of students in schools/programs; keeps accurate and current case documentation concerning assessment, student goals, service actions and case evaluation as required to fulfil school and district accountabilities; respects the confidentiality of correspondence and discussion; follows proper work procedures, observes all regulations pertinent to the work, maintains a good working relationship with other employees, and cooperates in maintaining a healthy learning and working environment; performs other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor; student supervision as required by the Principal or Vice Principal.
