Your Opportunity:
As a member of the Psychiatric Crisis Response Team, the Registered Psychiatric Nurse will be responsible for the following duties:
- Consultation & Assessment: Perform detailed comprehensive assessments of patients with mental health and/or substance use disorders referred by physicians. Assess mental status, risk factors, and addiction severity to inform treatment recommendations.
- Care Coordination: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including psychiatrists, social workers, and other healthcare providers, to develop, implement, and monitor individualized care plans. Facilitate community connections to appropriate levels of care, such as detox programs or outpatient services.
- Crisis Intervention: Provide immediate crisis intervention and stabilization for patients experiencing acute psychiatric episodes or substance use crises. Utilize de-escalation techniques and therapeutic communication to support patient safety and well-being.
- Patient Advocacy & Education: Advocate for patients and their families by promoting understanding of mental health and addiction issues. Educate staff and bring a psychologically informed care approach to staff, patients, families, and caregivers on available resources, harm reduction, and relapse prevention strategies.
- Collaboration & Liaison: Serve as a key liaison between medical and mental health teams, ensuring clear communication and coordinated care for patients with co-occurring medical and psychiatric conditions.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation of assessments, interventions, and care plans.

As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), you will provide leadership through a wide variety of nursing services to patients (clients, residents) to promote, maintain, or restore health, mental health, and prevent mental illness, injury, and disability. You will teach, counsel, and advocate on behalf of patients, taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. You will provide safe, quality, patient- and family-centered care, reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:
- Completion of an accredited Psychiatric nursing education program.
- Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA).
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
- 3-5 years' experience in an acute mental health or inpatient psychiatric setting.
- Ability to work in a concurrent disorder framework, providing integrated mental health and addiction services.
- Demonstrate commitment to trauma-informed care and client-centered approaches.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
