The Lois Hole Hospital for Women provides expert patient care for women of all ages and in all stages of life located at the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH) one of Alberta’s largest and longest-serving hospitals. Centrally located in Edmonton’s downtown core, the RAH serves a diverse community, including some of our province’s most vulnerable populations. Do you have a passion for obstetrics and looking for an exciting opportunity to learn, grow and advance your nursing career? This is a training position for Labour & Delivery with the expectation to provide cross coverage in antepartum as required. The Maternal Newborn Nursing Orientation consists of 9 days of virtual training, self-study and Lab combined with 19 buddy shifts and 13 mentor shifts in L&D to account for a total of 4 months training. Once the training is complete, you will have gained basic knowledge in working with obstetrical patients performing a wide variety of nursing duties by administering safe and effective nursing care according to hospital policies and nursing care standards. You will be considered fully trained in L&D once you have completed a year (1 year) in the job to allow for knowledge consolidation. As a Registered Nurse, you will demonstrate a professional attitude while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and consider the Essential Habits as set forth by the AHS Way in daily interactions with colleagues, patients, and visitors. Responsibilities of this position include handling obstetrical emergencies and caring for high-risk women with obstetrical complications and/or medical conditions complicated by pregnancy. This position will require a high level of resiliency and ability to deal with a stressful, high pace tertiary care environment delivering high‑risk obstetrical care.

Description

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well‑being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 – $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS‑HCP) certification. Additional Required Qualifications

A thorough understanding of the antepartum period, the labor and delivery process and the immediate postpartum period and possesses a basic knowledge of newborn assessment and breastfeeding. Successful completion of a medication exam is required at the time of the interview. CPR (BCLS) through Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation. Meet Physical Demands Requirements due to the unit's emergent nature, including: Significant walking and standing. Seated work requiring substantial arm and/or leg force. Regular handling of weights: occasionally 51‑100lbs, frequently 21‑50lbs, and constantly 0‑20 lbs. Pushing/pulling >180‑250lbs at times. Assistance to doctors during deliveries, patient handling, and transferring patients on/off beds in emergency situations – all Heavy Physical Demand at times. Helping patients ambulate post‑epidural. Emptying and moving of linen bags.

Preferred Qualifications

Completed a clinical preceptorship in Obstetrics at a level two or three facility within the last two (2) years.
