About the Endoscopy team

The Endoscopy unit at Mount Sinai Hospital is at the forefront of gastrointestinal and respiratory care, performing over 9,000 endoscopic procedures each year in our state-of-the-art unit. Our skilled team conducts a diverse array of procedures to screen, diagnose and monitor gastrointestinal and respiratory conditions including but not limited to colonoscopy, gastroscopy, bronchoscopy, capsule endoscopy and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). Our unit is dedicated to utilizing the latest in medical technology to enhance patient outcomes and advance the field of endoscopy.

In this role you will:
  • Ensure patients are monitored and prepared for their endoscopic procedures
  • Support procedures, including cases that are non-sedated, patients who receive moderate sedation, and patients who require support from anesthesia
  • Address patient care needs pre/ intra/ post procedure, post procedure complications, and effectively assess patients in recovery, procedure and discharge
  • Provide care for patient post procedure, optimizing patients for either discharge home or transfer to inpatient units
  • Provide patient and family centered education
  • Work collaboratively with the physician and anesthesia team for the best patient outcomes
Job Requirements

Mandatory

  • Current certificate of Registration issued by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • A baccalaureate degree from a CNO-approved nursing program or equivalent education combined with experience
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
  • 2 years of recent experience assisting with surgical procedural based activities in an ambulatory environment

Preferred

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Pre-operative, post-operative surgical experience and experience with gastroenterology patients is an asset
  • Certified in Gastroenterology Nursing (CGN)(C) or equivalent CNA certification
  • Canadian Society of Gastroenterology Nurses (CSGNA) membership
