Assisted Living Alberta is dedicated to Enhancing Care in the Community, helping people be healthy, well and independent in their homes and communities. We are looking for a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our CHOICE team to provide After Hours and On Call support to CHOICE clients and the programs. The RN works collaboratively with the health care team, performing assessment of needs, delivering therapeutic nursing services within professional practice standards, coordinating resources, establishing goals for client delivery, and evaluating outcomes. The RN provides direct client care that is evidence-based and client-centered, and acts as a consultant on the team to provide clinical expertise and direction to other team members regarding client cases. The RN participates in staff development and mentoring student clinical experiences. The RN – After Hours covers from 1600 to 2000 hours Monday to Friday, with on-call from home until 2300 hours, and weekend shifts on Saturday and Sunday from 0800 to 1615 with on-call from home until 2300 hours.

Responsibilities

As a Registered Nurse, you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, ensuring their safety and well-being. You will use nursing processes with critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, and will teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient- and family-centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
  • Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.
  • If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, you must complete the following free courses: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4) and NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification.

Additional Required Qualifications:

  • Two years of recent nursing experience (obtained within the last 5 years) or completion of a refresher program within 2 years.
  • Self-directed and able to work independently with sound professional judgement.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple details.
  • Strong communication and assessment skills to work cooperatively with the healthcare team, clients and families in a fast-paced environment.
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office, Outlook and Internet; ability to complete a hands-on assessment at interview.
  • Typing speed sufficient for workload and navigation of computer programs; physically capable of performing nursing tasks including transferring clients; ability to work in varied settings (homes, congregate settings, condos, apartments).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred; relevant community practice experience considered.
  • Palliative care experience.
  • Experience in Continuing Care and/or geriatric care.
  • Experience with Connect Care and the RAI Home Care assessment tool.
  • 2 years of current direct nursing in Continuing Care.
