Job summary

A leading shipbuilding company in Halifax seeks a Mechanical/Pipe Quality Control Inspector to ensure all mechanical and piping installations comply with specifications and quality standards. This role involves conducting inspections, collaborating with production teams, and preparing necessary documentation for project turnover. Ideal candidates will have a Red Seal Trade Certification and 3-5 years of relevant experience, along with strong communication skills and conflict management abilities. This position requires full-time, in-office presence.

Qualifications

  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience required.
  • CWB, NACE training considered an asset.
  • Inspection experience in a shipbuilding setting considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough inspections to ensure compliance.
  • Liaise with customer and internal teams for project milestones.
  • Evaluate specifications and incorporate hold points.
  • Perform routine inspections to ensure hazard-free areas.
  • Prepare NCRs and CARs for deviations.

Job description

Join our team as a Mechanical/Pipe Quality Control Inspector, where you'll play a key role in ensuring our systems meet the highest standards. You'll inspect mechanical and piping installations for compliance with specifications, codes, and ISO standards, while supporting production teams in delivering quality work the first time. This role involves close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, managing documentation for project turnover, and driving continuous improvement through Non‑Conformance Reports (NCRs) and Corrective Action Requests (CARs).

Qualifications
  • Red Seal Trade Certification, in associated trade (welding, pipe fitting, electrical, electronics, machining, mechanical) or equivalent experience.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience required.
  • CWB, NACE training considered an asset.
  • Inspection experience in a shipbuilding setting considered an asset.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office suite, SharePoint.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to manage conflict in a professional manner.
  • Handle sensitive situations carefully balancing the need to enforce quality standards with maintaining good relationships.

Due to the nature of work Irving Shipbuilding does, all successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Please note this position requires a full-time, in-office presence.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough inspections of all work to ensure compliance with specification and applicable hold points.
  • Liaise with customer and internal teams to verify satisfaction and secure sign off for project milestones and final acceptance.
  • Evaluate specifications and 1379’s to identify and incorporate necessary hold points into the production process.
  • Verify activities progressed as complete by production in the 98% report.
  • Perform routine shipboard inspections to ensure all areas are free from potential hazards, water ingress and housekeeping standards are consistently upheld.
  • Prepare NCRs and CARs to address any deviation from quality standards.
  • Complete all documentation required for turnover to the customer in alignment with the IT.
